Found this on the youtube. Anybody know what it is from. Shows the duck in some ROUGH water. I dont know what the beginning is all about.

It's from the movie "Murphy's War". The guy climbing into the cockpit is Peter O'Toole. Pretty far fetched plot but not a bad movie as far as flying action goes. If you can stand watching O'Toole act with his mouth hanging open through the entire thing that is.

Pilot was Frank Tallman - I've seen plenty of crazy flying like that in Tiger Moths, Stampes and Cubs, but a Duck...!

Which Duck is it?

You can get the film on DVD...

Frank traded a his Corsair to Burchinal for that Duck, he needed the Duck more then he needed a Corsair.

N3NJeff, me too, saw it years and years and years ago and enjoyed it - delighted to see it come up on Amazon recently and watched it again just earlier this week.

Only Duck I've ever seen was Kermit's, wrecked by Hurricane Andrew a year or so later. I still think the Friedman Duck should be shipped to the UK for Legends one year, but I heard that the thought of re-rigging it twice scuppered the idea.

Grumman sure built some great aircraft.

Was reading some of the stuff that I have on PBMs' and it talks about numerous times them landing and taking off in 15-25' swells. Talk about a beating, not only on the aircraft, but the crew too.

It's a film, so there were actually several Ducks, 'acting' as one. The book the film's based on had a Swordfish on floats, which is what the film Duck is representing in its British markings.

AFAIK, and I'll check, Tallman had at least two Ducks used in the filming, although there's dispute if he had a third one at the airfield static or that was the second machine. There was also a static mock up which was 'blown-up' by the submarine later in the film.

BTW, the British Film Industry library in London has an excellent set of colour slides from the filming.

Like the Walrus, the Duck's one of those stately looking aircraft that a skilled aerobatic pilot clearly can get a lot out of - and amaze any spectators, too.

As a seaplane fan, it's one of my favourite bits of film.

friedman duck???? what don't i know??? friedman schmuck....... well that's another explanation!!!! murphy's war is 1 of my favorite movies, but looking back again at the footage, it's kind of dumb that a swab jockey like murphy can loop that brick with no experience!!!

Thanks Silverplate, maybe that isn't the one I saw as I'm pretty sure the P-35 was there as well. Must have been 1990 or 91.

But we need to see a Duck flying over in Blighty!

I remember seeing Tallman at the Toronto airshow several times with the Duck. It always amazed me seeing the things he could do with it . Loops, rolls and stalls. He even did water landings. I was about 12 at the time and got him to autograph a photo I took of him. Great guy.
