There has been an unusual amount of debate -- often somewhat acrimonious lately. Much of this has centered around the Politics and Religion. Debate is generally good, but it can have a dark side, too.

a small group of people will re-hash the same arguments repeatedly.
Going over the same territory for the hundredth time was interesting only to those actually having the argument, and it chased away most other people, especially as the participants gradually lost their tempers and started screaming insults at each other.

All this was a huge waste of time because everyone participating had already made up their minds on the issue, and no one else was reading their comments. I can understand their frustration, because I feel it too.
Unreasearched, Uninformed, Unknowlegeable information from passionate people really defy reason and really don't come to a educated conclusion. However they would like to have the same baseless argument over and over. It is a form of Brainwashing. There are two options at this point for those who have been participating in these arguments.

In my opinion, the best of these is to move on. Agree to disagree, at least for the time being. In time,

Awhile back there was some controversy about someone's posting name...read the first couple of posts about it and then quit because it reminded me of when my children would throw a hissy fit about something that was totally uncalled for. I now realize that I should have offered to the complainer a pacifier, as that always seemed to calm my kids down.

Isn't this statment hypocritical? read your next statement ...

Since the internet is mostly "faceless", there are a lot of people on it that try and show their "adultness" by name calling, snide remarks, putting other people down, and just by being downright mean spirited. More power to all of you that fit the above categories, as I am sure, that you are legends in your own minds.

lolololol ..... Sorry for pointing this out but I'm the guy that had the log in name post. And I thought I was very respectful about the whole stink. I tried to explain to the very few that had a problem with my name that it was no big deal, but I guess it was to a few. I got pissed because it was only out of respect to my father. You can trash me all you want, but not my Dad. I was also new to WIX and had no idea that there were jerks out there lurking around looking to insult people. I also posted a thread about a long flight I had back from Europe. Sorry, I was tired and probably got a bit emotional, tough sh*t! if I'm enotional. I can still kick all your arsses ..... lololol, just kidding, that's a joke for the uptight ones. Actually when someone tells me I need to take a bubble bath? .... granted it was funny, but I don't need smart arss remarks. I give too many out to be getting them. .... But lastly I have to admit that just when I was ready to slit my wrists .... a certain woman who cuts hair in Wisconsin of all places came to mind and the world became good again.

I've said it a few times now .... I'm not afraid to post any question. I sleep well, but all of you must remember that we're here together to learn from and enjoy this wonderful site. Be respectful of each other. It really is that simple.

OK ... where are we all meeting for a beer? .... Santa Barbara is very nice today. Come on out and then we can all drive down to see Dan's PBJ progress. Have a hanger party. ... Happy Labor day weekend!!!!!

I am saddened that (jpeters…John ) left. He had many posts of interest, and now they are deleted. What a loss.
That resource is no longer available to me. Let try to keep that from happening again.

DITTO...

I am also fairly new to WIX and have read most of John's postings in the HANGER. While my interest lays mostly with PBJs (otherwise known as B-25s), I have learned more about the different Warbirds on WIX, and appreciate the knowledge I get from other contributors.

I have also noticed that some topics do have the "unwanted" tendency to degrade in personal comments from a few writers. Sometimes I continue to read the Threads and shake my head or laugh at their comments; sometimes I just move on to other topics. As others have already noted, these "ten-percenters" can be found on many forums.

John has made a decision that he has to live with and from reading the postings, the majority feel saddened by that decision and loss of his contributions. I know hardly little about ball turrets, but I would like to see him stay and continue with his contributions.

Dave

Yo...Hellcat Driver (I don't care if you did change your name and the CAF is STILL the CONFEDERATE Air Force.) Santa Barbara may, in fact, be a lovely place. You've got two strikes against you already though:
1) It's in California and
2) It's in California

Mudge

I think that I have seen pictures of you out in California looking at a P-38 or two!

Much gooder tone :D I like the idea of somehow getting all of us together for a hogroast/kegger sometime to sit and shoot the bull for hours(or days if the beer holds out).

Whaddya say Bill? You would seem to be about in the middle of the country so as to give us all the same distance to travel. You provide the beer, hogs and house to crash at and we will provide you with all of the drunken debauchery you can handle. Heck, we might even get some airplane talking in

In all seriousness...the few members from here that I have met in person all seem to share the same passion for anything that flys as I do. I doubt I will ever be fortunate enough to own a Spitfire like Bill does, but it is so awesome to be able to come in here and "talk" to someone like him and feel at ease rather than get told to "bugger off you nitwit" because I may have asked something inanely obvious to him.

Many thanx to all of the good people here :drink3:

I can't host one here now, but tell you what, if you make it to Midland for the CAF (Conforming Air Force) introduce yourself ( not 10 minutes before I am flying) and after the show on Sat I'll buy the beer and introduce you to my son( the crazy extreme skier, not the crazy motorcycle racer). Folks who have a string interest in warbirds, evenif not an owner or restorer, are the platform that makes this hobby possible. And when I have time, I enjoy talking to people. I even have friends who fly T-28s and who vote for Repulsicans. Just don't tell anyone.

Not to pick on Mudge or start one of those degrading series of messages, but I "resent  " his disgust of California  . Santa Barbara is really a nice community, just a pain in the a$$ to get to from Camarillo via the 101 freeway. If this does degrade, I'll blame it on Hellcat :) .

BTW Mudge, I did some research on Bunker Hill; sounds like a nice place to live  .

Fish the Fact-Finder(?) :P

Bunker Hill is in Berkeley County, in the Hagerstown-Martinsburg metro area.

Historic sites and museums: Morgan Cabin, Bunker Hill Flour Mill

Bunker Hill, West Virginia

Bunker Hill is an unincorporated town in Berkeley County, West Virginia, United States located on Winchester Pike (U.S. Highway 11) at its junction with West Virginia Secondary Route 26 south of Martinsburg. It is the site of the confluence of Torytown Run and Mill Creek, a tributary of Opequon Creek. According to the 2000 census, the Bunker Hill community has a population of 5,319.

At Bunker Hill in 1726, Colonel Morgan Morgan founded the first permanent settlement of record in Western Virginia. In commemoration of this event, the state of West Virginia has erected a monument in Bunker Hill State Park, and has placed a marker at the grave of Morgan Morgan, which is in a cemetery near the park. The first Episcopal church (Christ Church) in what is now West Virginia was erected at Bunker Hill by Morgan Morgan in 1740. Morgan Morgan built his cabin between 1731 and 1734. The cabin was restored as a Bicentennial project in 1976, using many of its original logs. Located along West Virginia Secondary Route 26 west of Bunker Hill, it is a historically furnished museum and is the home of the Morgan Cabin Committee.

Bunker Hill's Mill Creek Historic District is the site of the Bunker Hill Mill, a gristmill that contains 19th and 20th centuries milling equipment, still in operating condition. The mill was constructed in 1738 and rebuilt in 1890 and serves as the only mill in the state featuring dual water wheels. One of the three churches in the historic district, Bunker Hill Presbyterian Church, was built in 1854.

Because of its central location between Martinsburg and Winchester, Virginia along Interstate 81 and U.S. Highway 11, Bunker Hill has experienced a period of massive residential growth beginning in the 1980s and continuing into the 21st century. Bunker Hill has its own post office operating under the ZIP code of 25413.
