For crying out loud you mad mad mad people

WARBIRDs are nowdays and since WW 1l been designed to remeber and replicate the warrior of the PAST. Why esle are they called WAR birds...

HOW is ANYONE able to do that if they dont paint a frigging paint scheme to remeber a pilot or a plane eg if famous how will they be remeber if all planes are silver and standard markings and NO artwork.. youd all be whinging...boring where the markings of such and such unit etc etc..

So what if there 200 P-51D in D-Day markings.. if someone is curious they will go ask and check and maybe find out geezz wizz it didnt fly in D-day but the owner thought that scheme would best ignite interest in their plane.... or make modern day people reflect back on the veterans who flew.

So what if DT Memphis Belle recreation has the artwork.. anyone WHO reads and READS carefully will know for all sundry that the real Belle is not a flyer and never will fly again for all eternity.

So what you going to do to keep the legend alive????.. paint a B17 of course with these markings.. \

Whats next on the list on anal rentetive ideas? oh here a good one..... F-86 made by Candair flying in USAF korean markings which they never flew in.. better ban those babies quick fast son.

See here we go again circle YOU cant please everyone all the time...

If YOU dont like a paint scheme well thats YOUR own choice.

Here a simple suggestion to fix YOUR distate...Go and pay the owner say $20,000 to get it PAINTED in YOUR scheme if your so fugging fussy.!!!

Its these kind of topics that PISS everyone off on warbirds... and make some seick of the antics...

Try and force me to paint something of mine and it will stay like it is alot longer.

I would rather see any warbird in original marking but they have to make money. Flashy sells, plane and simple ;)

If not 100% original to the airframe markings, I like recreated original markings over total ficticious markings.

When the Belle with a N Number needs paint, I'm sure it will change to "Shoo Shoo Baby".

Not to change the subject but, how many Memphis Belles have there been. At least one F-105, one B-52, any other aircraft carry the name while in service?

The Belle is arguably the most famous B-17. When folks see a flying
B-17 in her colors it is a tribute to her and the crews. That's a good thing.
Out of every hundred people that see her in person, a certain number probably become interested enough to invest a little time in learning more about warbird history, maybe even by coming here.
I wouldn't care if there were five Belles. I don't care if Tallichet paints his purple with polka dots if he wants. Its a B-17 and seeing one fly in person gives me chills every time and makes me proud of all the folks including my Dad that flew them.

Couldn't agree more with Mike and RickH. Being here on the Left Coast, and unfortunately not born rich, I may never make the trip to see the real Belle, thus, it's been cool getting to see Tallichet's B-17 as such. People at air shows constantly mistake P-51's for T-Bolts, B-25's for B-17's etc. We can't correct them all, and if they go home happy from the experience of seeing what they think they saw, it's good for us all seeing another air show/fly-in survive. If you correct them in front of friends or their kids, they can become embarrassed about it and not return............

You are right. Tallichet's B-17 'played' Belle through the movie, but Sally B was the 'stunt double' if you like, for the film, and was painted and 'acted' as a number of aircraft, including the Belle in the final 'landing' scenes as Sally B was fitted with reflective panels for the tail-damage landing scenes, and a dummy tail with real holes for the rollout of the landing.

We were stationed at Alconbury in the UK for a three years in the early '90s, and we'd see the Sally B flying over the house all the time, painted half-Belle, half Sally-B

That was a great place to live, for sure.

Is there any evidence that is is the official policy of the NMUSAF (i.e. the attempted forbidding of reproduction of colour schemes of aircraft in their collection on other aircraft?). If so, could someone please point me to an official document or statement by ther museum on this subject.
