No offense meant but are you a part of this community? Your buddy stepped on his pestrakis here but he is locked in a legitimate contract. Get your emotions out of the equation. The deal is the deal. Grow up and learn from the mistakes. One is expected to be smarter than the tools he works with.

Its been my experience that such responses like this generally come from people who have more to fear from such court rullings than they let on. The transcript is fairly clear as to what each party did and did not do. The law is straight forward as well. No one is above the law. In this case as I understand it, the case was handled by private sources and Ebay had nothing to do with it. That in itself is another issue. Getting a Wirraway for $150k may seem cheap, especially if you are another Wirraway owner / rebuilder who wants the price to be higher. The facts of the case are clear and the real value of the aircraft is what people are prepared to pay for it. On this occassion it was one bidder, it could have been dozens but the end result and legal mechanisms would still apply.

Doing my own research on recent Wirraway sales shows another aircraft sold about 2 years go after having about $400k spent on it. It was sold for $220K and is described as being an 8 out of 10 aircraft. The Wirraway sold on Ebay, to the best of my knowledge was something less than the one sold for $220k and has been described to me as being a 5 or 6 out of 10 aircraft. You do the sums from there and I'd suggest, as others have, leaving the emotions aside so real business people can get on with real business. Finally, a little known fact is the Wirraway sold on Ebay had an export permit granted, albeit several years ago its still applies. As far as I understand the new owner intends to dispaly it in a museum, here in Australia, for Australians to enjoy.
