I’ll be going to Chicago later on this week, for a couple of days. I have never been there except to change planes. The main purpose of the trip is to attend a friends wedding. Fortunately he is into warbirds also. If we find time, we might be able to sneak away for a while. My question is where should we go, and does anyone have any requests?

Do you want to find locations of displayed, stored or active aircraft? Then start with the The Locator.
Do you want to find or contribute to the documented history of an aircraft? If so then start with the Airframes Database.

If you wanted to drive about an hour down I-90,
you could stop in and see a B-17 being put back together.

1 hour south of Chicago in Valparaiso, IN is the Indiana Aviation Museum. Though they don't have weekday hours just call and make an appointmet and they'll be happy to show you around.

If you go to the Museum of Science, you have to see the U-505. It's a pretty neat display even if it's not and aircraft!

I was at the museum a few weeks ago with the kids, the Spitfire and Stuka have been moved, they are now hanging over the train layout by the 727, The U505 is a must see, but they do not allow pictures or video of the interior :x

Thanks guys.
Where exactly is the B-17. Is that at the Indiana aviation museum? I'll fly into O'Hare so I've got the Wildcat. I'm pretty sure I'll check out the Museum of Science and Industry also. If any one thinks of some thing else let me know. Thanks again.

The B-17 is about 4 miles south of Marengo, IL. Very cool.

I thought I had posted pics of my trip out there but maybe not...
