Post subject: A Few Update Pics
PostPosted: Mon Aug 20, 2007 10:43 am
Morning all,

Just thought I'd post a few pics this morning after a busy week in the shop. The fuselage frame of N2S-3 BuNo 05284 passed her NDT inspection last Monday with almost perfect marks, just three tiny little cracks in one cluster with one of them possibly having been there since she left the factory sixty-five years ago. Many thanks to Kim Morrison (another old airplane nut) from Cougar NDE in Red Deer for the great job. But the cracks were fixed, the airframe got it's final wipedown and inspection and that was followed by priming and paint. Now just a few thousand more little jobs to do and she'll be back in the air!

Dan

She looks great Dan! Looks like you had a nice frame to start with.

Thanks for the update photos. Keep them coming as time permits.

Steve

Nathan,

I believe that is Dan's BT-13 project.

An O-52? Boy, I wish... Nope, actually it's one of Walter Soplata's old BT-13's that he let go to a friend of mine in the late '80's. I bought it about six or seven years ago. That's the next project once the Stearman gets finished.

Yes, the PT-13D pretending to be an N2S-3 is mine as well. It's handy having it so close by when working on the other one sometimes. It'll be getting retired for awhile once the other one is up and running, and then torn down completely and rebuilt from the shadow up as well. The Nanchang is forced to live outside for the time being although she comes in for maintenance as required but our contractor is busily hacking away at the dirt next door on the new hangar project so everybody should have a roof over their head by the time the snow comes. That's "THE PLAN" anyway! :)

Yeah well Alberta winters don't always go "To Plan" so make sure the contractor hurries. Hmmm, PT-13D, N2S-3... I'll have to brush up on Stearmans... keep us updated on your progress :)

Just watch out that you look but don’t take, LOL.

But seriously, drop me a line if you ever need an odd piece or two of wing hardware.

Thanks guys. I may have to host a WIX "hangar moving party & kegger" this spring when I move everything out of the shop to the new hangar next door so I can vaccuum blast and repaint the floor. The outfit that built my hangar used the worst possible paint that they could have for the floor - about the only two things I've found that won't dissolve the finish are oil and coffee!! My friends kid me about the airplanes all being parked on top of little mats, but the fact of the matter is that if I don't they stick to the floor and damage the tires!

AIRIC - coffee's at 3pm. :D

And Eric - line dropped. Thanks for the help.

Dan

Dan, I have some of the parts you need.

I just sent a PM but I’m not sure if it went through or not. For some reason I no longer receive email notifications to new PMs or replies to threads.
