Crazy asking but..

To stop a hurricane say from forming, wouldnt a say a nuclear device dropped in middle of one , totally obilerate the hurricane straight away?

I know USAF did do high alt drops of devices over the Pacific tests ranges and when they were detonated at altitude they were big cloud shaped mushrooms.. and when devices were done at sea level they produced massive condensation clouds (and they were also tested on cloudy days) and the clouds very vapourised but then in some tests film i see the clouds came back???? straight away or maybe im confused.

The downside is that you'd probably create the largest radioactive cloud on record. If the remnents of the storm continued ashore, you'd have a massive cauldron of death washing inland over 1000 miles of shoreline, saturating the place with fallout.

Out of curiousity's sake though, it would be veeeeery interesting to see if you could in fact knock one of those massive storms out in one blow! I suppose there's also the chance that the heat generated by the nuke would only add to the engine that's driving the hurricane. Imagine superfueling one of those big suckers with a radioactive heat bomb.

I fairly convinced that any nuke droped on or even detonated within a reasonable blast zone would obliterate a Huricane, at least the early variants. Not so sure if the same would hold true for aSpit or Mustang.

The Mustang would be fine...there are 5 survivors from those tests down in Australia.

NASM's F6F was used as a drone during Crossroads. On the display placard they even have a disclaimer stating that any residual radiation, if there is any, is insignificant.

To comment on the original posting, I've seen this question asked before and the answer is twofold: first, the energy in a hurricane is magnitudes larger than even the largest hydrogen bomb. Second, hurricanes are born and grow as a result of hot air and warm water ... so setting off a nuke inside one would just add (minimally) to its power.
