Do you know of the significance of the differences in the emblem on the cowls? The first one has no lightning bolts, the next one has four, the next one only has one to the left instead of two, etc.

It's the "Screaming Red Ass Squadron" insigna, but not finished on the irst P-47 and obviously saw some variants on other planes....

During WWII, the 57th FG received some of the Brazilian T-bolts back (I guess they needed them!) Most of the 57th's bubbletop P-47's were natural metal, but the ones that came from the Brazilians had the OD on them.
Photos from the era show painted out Brazilain Markings on the upper and lower wings, (they had insignia in all four wing positions.) and repainted rudder's. The paint scheme on the New England Air Museum's P-47 "Norma" is a replica of this "reverse lend-lease" from the Brazilian Air Force.
