"Modern" Zwilligs?

Sun Aug 12, 2007 5:15 pm

A buddy of mine commented over lunch the other day that he wanted "one of those twin fuselage bombers the Germans used in WWII to tow gliders". I asked, ""You mean that twin He 111Z?" He confirmed. We then started talking about, altho it would be a huge sin, why couldn't someone take a couple of CASA 2.111s & build a "CASA 2.111Z" (He 111Z)? Or, better yet, to complement the P-82 threads, take a couple of Ha 1112s & make an "Ha 1112Z" (Bf 109Z). Wouldn't those be cool at an airshow?!

IMHO, I'd rather see two CASA 2.111's flying than one 2.111Z.

Can you imagine taking care of five Merlins. How 'bout torqueing the heads every 25 hours. No thanks

Got to get inside the CAF's Hienkle at Shafter several years back. Loved the cockpit visability!!! When she takes off ,she sound like two Mustangs.I don't know why I was surprised. Right sound, wrong shape, do you suppose?

I think an operational Zwilling would be a handful in the air and difficult to maintain. I would be interesting as a static recreation in the future, though. Even better would be a static Mistel recreation with FlugWerk replica and a salvaged Ju88.

I also think I would rather see one or more CASA or original Heinkels back in the air.

Does anyone have any progress information on the airworthy He111 project that was happening in Austria a few years ago?
