LOVE THOSE SHOTS!

Thanks for posting them.
I never knew that Race "74" or any other F2G put in appearance at the Vought Plant in Stratford, CT. Those are the original hangers the F2G is parked between, and in the background of the second shot you can see the open, white hanger doors of the assembly plant across the street. Every Corsair that came out of that plant, came through those white doors!
Awesome pics!

Jerry

Hi,

Are you sure of the date on the -2- color shots? The Races were in September 1947 and by that time, #74 had a special thinned out prop that was silver in color and a silver spinner dome. Maybe that was the date that the photos were developed.

#84 was supposed to be painted and modified at Vought instead of #74 but Dick Becker was concerned about his low fuel situation (he had water in one of the tanks) and forgot to lower the landing gear so she slid to a stop on her gulls. Dick cut the engine so only the prop recieved damage from the power section. Cook had Dick take a train back for the second F2G while Vought made the 1st F2G ferriable and shipped back replacement parts to Cook to repair the 1st F2G. Cook made arrangements to "borrow" a prop from Ham Standard and Becker ferried the 1st F2G back to their field where Cook & Dick repaired #84.
When Dick blew the reduction gear in 1949 on #74, they wanted McKillen to use the "special" propeller from #74 on #57 but he didn't want it.
Bothe Vought and Goodyear help in the modifications on 74 & 94. 84 was just weight reduction by Cook & Dick & helpers. #57 was stock with the Navy Experimental scoop extension on (it came with the plane, was borrowed for 1947)

They are totally awsome pictures!

Have a nice day!

Kenn

The date could be the date that the pictures were developed. These were on a disk that I found at MAPS. In the picture properties it had 10-16-47 listed as the date so I assumed that was when they were taken.

If Race 74 ever gets restored to flying condition, maybe she could return to the old plant. Maybe even with Race 54! :D

Hoping for another Corsairs over Conn Jerry!
