Yeah, it is definitely a PBY. Apparently there were couple of them turned into funny looking boats in Australia after WWII.

Cheers,

David

Interesting photo, thanks for posting it. So now I've seen a PBY turned into a boat and I think there is a KC-97 or Stratoliner fuselage that's been turned into a house boat in Florida. My question is, what would a PT boat look like if you had to make it fly? I have seen an airplane that could submerge like a mini sub. I think only the prototype was ever built but it sure was an interesting looking device. I'm not sure if it was a flying mini-sub or a mini-sub that could fly. Has anyone else ever seen this thing in Tucson?

The "Cosmic Muffin" is my favorite of all airplane boats.

This is, or rather was, PBY-5A Catalina VH-BRI ex-N95R, N10018 and Bu48373. Whilst being operated by Ansett Flying Boat Services, it suffered a heavy water landing and sank Hayman Island, 8/7/1962. It was later acquired by Vic O'Hara of Proserpine and converted to a motor cruiser and was based for some years at Shute Harbour, Queensland. It was named Henrietta Hoh. To the best of my knowledge, it still exists.

See the recent thread on the Australian Cat for more photos, and the link from there is:

There's also a Dornier Do-24 nose - cockpit section which was converted to a houseboat. It was seen on the Murray River, for many years, but there's not been a recent sighting. Would like to track that down.
