Hi all,
This post is probably for the Australian forumites in particular however there might be someone from overseas who might feel like coming to our great country.

Some time ago I suggested on the FlyPast forum about a possible meet in Ballarat at some stage in the future. Have just made a very similar post on FlyPast and thought I'd post here as well for anyone who might be interested. Ballarat's a realistic hour and a half from the centre of Melbourne and very easy to get to. The day could include inspection of my Wirraway project (piles of parts!); lunch; a visit to the Aviation Museum; and a visit to the Anson restoration that's also underway at the airport. There's a possibility that the Strikemaster jet, Yak 52 or Auster could fly on the day but that's very much up to the decisions of the respective operators.

At the moment I'm just interested in finding out who might be interested in coming and what date might suit best. I'm personally fairly busy until mid December and by then it's probably too close to Christmas. January or February are certainly possible though. Have a think about it anyway people.

Cheers,
Matt

Hi Matt,

count me in, always glad to see your Wirraway bits, and I havent seen the Anson project at all, I would prefer an early February date? rather than January.

regards

Please keep me informed as I may be able to get down.

Need a bit of time to organise work and may be doing a long distance delivery in Jan/Feb [well, maybe not so far, but certainly not fast!!]

G'day

yeah, keep me informed but with how work is for getting time off: ( all forms in quadruplicate in case the first 3 go missing ) can't be school holidays, can't be public holidays, can't be long weekend, can't be when the boss has holidays, can't be when the other guy working there has holidays, can't be unable to be contacted in case I have to be called in to work ( so she says ) and finally, not allowed to travel too far in case the other guy working there is ill ( so she says ). Might not be able to make it despite wanting to very much.

only thing I am not so sure of is the location. last time I went through ballarat it was 3C and I was on a motorbike at night in january and I still shiver thinking of that trip.

brisbane sounds great too but still same problems with time off work. I wonder if threatening to quit would work again?
would be like heaven to me considering how little time I get off and how few warbirds there are that I have access to see around here. :(

Crikey, I didn't realise there were so many Aussies on this forum! :P
I'd love to attend if the time is right, sorry I can't give you input as to when that would be however if you organise a date I will try to attend.
Just another thought, how about a meet up at the Avalon International Airshow, perhaps on one of the trade days?
regards Martin

Hello Everyone,

I recently saw Matt's collection of Wirraway bits, and was very impressed!
The Ballarat Aviation Museum is also worth a look.

Hi guys,

I'll be in Melbourne for Avalon 2005 so I think Martin's idea for a meet-up during the airshow could be a goer. Any other takers?

John, a Brisbane get together sounds great!

Cheers

Hi all,
Well I have to say that I'm impressed with the interest in this possible meet. By placing the post both here and on FlyPast, I'm trying to make it a meeting of people from both forums. Although many people use both anyway.

From people's comments it's probably looking like early February would be a reasonable time to make it happen. Unfortunately this is too early for those who are making a trip to the region for the Avalon show. IF (that's a big if) a meet could be arranged the weekend before Avalon, would this be a better time? I'm just not sure that many of those who are coming for Avalon would arrive a week early. The weekend after Avalon is Easter so that's a bad time for many people and I might be overseas anyway.

The intention was to have a meet where people can look certain things in a certain location (Ballarat in this instance). It's quite possible that something could be arranged for Avalon as well.

Just re-capping, assuming other priorities don't arise, the possible meet would be in early February in which case detailed organisation would begin around the middle of January. If it doesn't happen then, it will at some stage anyway!

Cheers,
Matt

Great initiative to try to get people together to discuss what we all love. I'd love to see the Wirraway bits, and will try to get there whenever it is. I agree with the comment about trying to do it on one of the trade days at Avalon, but that possiby wouldn't be easy to coordinate for some people. Anyhow it'd be great to meet some of you guys.

Hi all,
I thought that I'd better finally get around to making a statement about the proposed forum meet. Unfortunately it will not be happening around the time that was originally discussed. If it was, then it'd be happening within the next week or two.

The principal reason for it not happening is that I've been very busy of late. Thankfully some of this has been caused by actually doing things related to the project.

It would still be great to have a forum meet along the lines of that originally proposed at some stage in the future. We'll see what happens. At least there would be more to look at on a later visit. I might have made some visible progress by then and there are also a few nice, airworthy birds coming to the neighbourhood in the near future.

Apologies for not making this post at an earlier date. Although this full blown meet isn't happening at the moment, I'm sure there'll be something of a meet at the Avalon airshow and it'd be great to meet a few people in the flesh.

Cheers,
Matt
