Does anyone have any current info about F-14A "Miss Molly" It is BU number 161622 and served as NL 200 It flew with VF-111. I am trying to see if there is anyway to save some of her, if not all for a display, but the Navy Museum is being of their normal usefullness.

Ouch! That sucks. I am not sure why the NMNA wouldn't have wanted to save that one. Well, thanks for the info.

Thanks!

She was a CAG bird with the Sundowners. I don't know a ton about her, but seen pics of her. She had a pin up painted on the side of the fuselage along with the name.

The only thing I know--and it could just be hearsay, is that "Miss Molly" was an actual nurse to Carl Vinson (or was it John Stennis??) and somehow that is significant. But that's all I've ever heard.

I copied this off the Zotz decals page:

"F-14A-125-GR 161621 (TARPS) In 2 December of 1989 "Miss Molly" previously adorned a C-1A COD assigned to the USS Carl Vinson. It was named in honor of Miss Molly Snead, the nurse who cared for Senator Vinson's wife. When the C-1A was retired, Lt. Mark Conn, an artist, kept the tradition alive on this VF-111's CAG bird. This preview features the 1/48 decal sheet."

I wonder if there is any way to contact Mark Conn to see if there is a way that he would reproduce it for me.

"Normal usefullness" ???? Come on now Mustangdriver....I
won't tell you I agree with every decision NMNA has ever made.
I won't tell you there weren't some things I wish they'd do
differently, but if there is ONE thing they do right it's share
aircraft with other museums. The F-14 is a case in particular.

From what I read "Miss Molly" was probably painted over
long before she was scrapped. I wish it was otherwise, just
as I wish the nose art of the scrapped F-14s at AMARC had
been saved. But don't down NMNA for not saving "Miss Molly"
if she was struck in Dec. of 2003. No one has done more to
perpetuate the legacy of the Tomcat than NMNA. Below is a
list of F-14s on loan to various institutions around the country.
Imagine how much it cost to transport those birds to a museum
near you. I know I like to just touch the one at Battleship Park
outside Mobile, AL as well as the ones in Pensacola. Let's be fair.

Owen lets put things in their proper perspective.

There are a ton of F-14s on display all over the country, they cost the NMNA NOTHING to do that. ALL of the expenses to locate the aircraft at their respective museums was borne by those museums, wether the aircraft flew in or were trucked in, all NMNA has done is loan them out.

If a particular aircraft has a specific reason that it should be saved for then that info needs to be transmitted to the Office of Stricken Aircraft in Pennsylvania. Usually that reason needs to be of some historical significance and if it is chances are that the museum has already requested that particular aircraft for museum purposes.

While I don't agree with some of the NHC decisions overall they do a pretty good job at the museum.

Alright Chad I'm done pulling your leg. (actually I just figured it out)

I've good news and bad news.

The bad news is that 161622 was scrapped.

The good news?..........is that 161621 (Miss Molly) wasn't scrapped and is in DM or atleast hasn't been scrapped as far as the latest info I can find says.

bottom line:

Get your Bureau Numbers straight buddy
