Today was pretty good. The Blues did a practice show, as well as the Corsair did. A gaggle of 5 B-25's came in with an escort of 2 P-47's, a P-51, and a P-40. Almost as if they were returning from a mission.......

I am SO JEALOUS!

Just got back from the Saturday show. Fifteen B-25s in the air! It was fantastic.

I have no pics to add due to my very poor skills and equipment, but....

What a perfect day. Clear blue skies, not too hot with a light breeze. Fairly continuous action all day. And plenty of room for a crowd that was simply huge.

The highlite of my day was talking with the original pilot of Tondelayo. What a great honor to shake his hand.

Great flying with the warbirds and vintage jets. The simulated pilot rescue with the restored Sikorsky H-34(?) was something new and very interesting.

Initially, I wasn't thrilled about including Sean Tucker in this show. But with the relatively conservative warbird and jet passes, I thought the addition of a high energy aerobatic act in the middle of the show was perfect. YAF has my vote for including 1 aerobatic act in future shows.

Ya the weather was great today. Besides the already stated 15 B-25s, I'm surprised no one has mentioned Dale Snodgrasses Corsair Demo! It was awsome. Here are my meager contributions, someone else can provide better flying shots.

The B-25 flight was the highlight of the show. They did a couple formation passes, at one time there was a solo B-25, a formation of 5, and three formations of 3. All 15 flew over oat once, which is ne of the coolest things I've ever seen at an airshow! Other good stuff...the P-47 flight was great as usual, Dale Snodgrass' F4U-5 aerobatics were also great, and the Blues show was the best I've seen from them. It seemed like their performance fit the layout of the show really well. I had no problems whatsover with parking or any other hassles, it was a very well-organized show. Hats off on a job well done once again!

Yesterday I was on a Falcon 10 trip and we stopped in Akron, Ohio for a couple of hours. The airport (AKR) has a really cool Airship hangar and an art deco 1930's airline terminal that makes for a great fuel stop. WHile there a UH-34D helicopter in early vietnam Marine markings came in for fuel . they were on their way to Thunder. Those guys have done an amazing job and it looks mil- spec all the way. They said a dozen vietnam vets pooled their resources of like $125 K for parts and bought the helo that had once been assigned to their squadron. It had over 70 scab patches from bullet holes.
While standing by the UH-34 a flight of seven warbirds came in , three B-25's and four fighters. We remarked at how this is what it might have looked like during the war when ferry pilots stopped in Akron for fuel. The B-25's were "take off time", Miss Hap/Avirex and another. The two P-47's were Jacky's Revenge and No guts No GLory." There was also a P-40E and a Mustang.
All the airplanes were spotless and none of the round engines had a spot of oil anywhere. My hat's off to all the crews and volunteers. While watching the B-25's takeoff on Runway 25, my Falcon 10 captain friend said "Man that's what we ought to be flying today!"
I reminded him that being paid to fly the Falcon in air conditioned comfort and 496 knots wasn't too shabby either!

You lucky so-and-so's are making me turn green with jealousy! Fifteen B-25s has got to be one awesome sight! I remember how great it was to be at Breckenridge the year they had eight Mitchells attending (and flying!). I was blown away by that. Nearly double that number? Yeeoowww!

On the bright side, after 43 straight days of rain in D/FW, it didn't rain today... instead, it was 96 degrees with blistering sun and choking humidity... We're already several inches past our normal annual rainfall amount, and it's only early in July. We have another rainy season coming in the late fall!
