How many examples of this type of aircraft are left? Flying/Static?

Not quite knowledgeable about this particular warbird.

A couple of small points that differ on the model from Rudy's MK XVIII. The full size airplane has normal full wingtips. Since that version was a high altitude model one would not normally see clip tips on it. Also the cannon position is reversed on the model. Nice otherwise.

Bill, I think the model represents a low-back Mk.XIV and not an XVIII. Externally the two are very similar so the XVIII could be used as a good reference for creating a model of the XIV if no actual XIV were readily available.

Thanks Bill, Chad is correct. I was building a Mk.XIV, but the XVIII was very valuable for reference.

If anyone plays around with combat sims and happens to have a copy of jane's WWII FIGHTERS, my model is available as a free download at the following link. http://www.ww2fighters.org/British_Fighter_Pages/spitXIV.htm

Also found on that site is my latest work, a Mustang flown by Lt. Walter "Moon" Mullins of the 55th Fighter Squadron.

In talking about modern replacement parts for a Merlin we should remember one thing Money! At the heyday of the Merlin there was probably no military part being made, cept perhaps radar, more important to the survival of England than this engine. Therfore the very deep pockets of the Queen were available, more so than any engine rebuilder now, even one as advanced as Roush Industries. Rolls Royce engineers were amoung the finest in the world as was their metallurgy, and their testing sheds ran engines 24 hours a day to find and improve any problems. Allison and radial engine cos. may have had similar proograms. We have a lot of new electo tech gadgets, with many advances, but it is foolish to feel that these guys in the 30's ans 40's were novices. After 70 years who has made a better wing design than Mitchell?

(bump)

From the photos posted earlier in this thread, it looked like in 2002 that Mr Frasca's 190 was well on it's way to being completed. Just curious to know if anyone has been to Mr Frasca's place more recently than 2002 and might have any new info. Seems to be some recent flurry of interest in the 190 that Mr Allen has...I know, I know...Mr Allen's is real as well as Weisse Eins (sp?). IIRC there is another kit-190 in Florida close to completion? Would be so awesome to see 2 or maybe even 3 190s in the air someday...soon?

WK, this is kind of a delayed response, but here's a quick link to kinda' sorta' answer your question. Bird in question is the Fiat G46.
