Anybody like speed on 2 wheels? I went to the AMA race at Salt Lake (Tooele Utah) Some of the fastest factory riders in the world were there on a new and big track. They can lap faster than most race cars, not counting F1. Top speed on the straights for the 1000 cc bikes was over 180 mph. It will be shown on the Speed channe , might even be Tue. maybe at 11? don't really know. My son Charles, who some of you met at Oshkosh, is a private entry on a blue Yamaha R-600, in the X-treme class, #336 with grey black leathers and a blue striped helment. They ran Sat afternoon. It scares the hell out of me, but he is into it. He started 21 out of 44 bikes; one guy down in the first turn, another a few turns later. I was glad to see Charle survive the first lap. Then the end of the long straigh at about 150 mph, he outbraked a sponsored rider on a Suzuki and passed him into the turn. Next lap the guy with more straight line speed leads again on the straight, this time Charles goes by him on the inside and makes the turn. I'll leave the result until the TV cast. Kids got a lot of guts, but it is hard for a parrent to wtch at those speeds!

I love two wheel stuff! I raced motocross for almost 20 years, then got old and scared, so I took up shifter karts. Now I a seriously considering picking up an SV-650 to do some sportsman class road racing. To me the best racing going on world wide is in Moto GP.

Used to race motocross years ago in high school and college, rode a few street bikes and then got a 2003 Harley Davidson V-Rod. Proceeded to hop it up with a Race Tuner module and tuned it on a dyno for max power.

A 16 year old kid did a left turn and pulled out in front of me a couple of years ago and I broad sided him at 55 MPH.

I don't ride bikes anymore.............but like to look at em!!! :D

If they show the Sun finale of 1000 cc , catch Matt Mladin; he goes off in the first turn at the end of the long straight, tears up he bike, the mechs repair it in 15 minutes and aon hte resatrt he comes from dead last to almost win it.

I have to agree the best racing (not in the air) is on two wheels. I had a race preped cbr600 but unfortunately my ex-g/f talked me out of going to every track day I tried to sign up for. I am currently bikeless as I sold it to help finance my airplane. I went to buy another one a few months ago and ended up with a sports car. SO it looks like I am waiting till next spring to get another crotch rocket.

I love bikes hence forth I have 4. The older I get, the less "I need to super fast " I get. I love my Aprilia but im starting to favor my VFR800. Easy to ride yet still fun. But there is something to say about hitting a 25 mph turn at 60, knee down and drifting the back end of a bike.

He is at it again this weekend, if he gets the damage repaired from the last crash, along with another local boy who was a ski racer with Charles. They are in Hastings, Nebaska. This will be the last race weekend for Charles before starting law school Aug. 20. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I don't want to see him get hurt, but it would also be really nice to see him finish. He usually does well when he stays right side up.
