There I was on the feeder of Interstate 59 in steamy Houston, Texas on June 18th around 8:00 PM.
Then my thoroughly crapola mood was instantly changed.

There was a P-38 Lightning with a Mustang on EACH wing heading South, towards Hobby or maybe Galveston LSFM?

Anybody know whazzup? And which birds I saw?
It was too twilight to tell if it was a green machine. All's I could see was shadowy twin-boom heavenly warbird, with two 'Stangs making time!
And it wasn't even an AIRSHOW! :D

According to the AirshowBuzz website, Glacier Girl and Miss Velma stopped in Houston last night. They probably couldn't go farther because the weather East was bad.

Ed Shipley posted a photo of them in town and they are in Tom Friedken's hangar, which as far as I know is still at Sugarland. That would explain why you saw them around 59. Sure wish I had known....

Top of page and about 3/4 the way down are some pics related to this topic. I didn't know there were two Mustangs flying with Hinton, only Miss Velma is making the crossing.

Hey Trey,

I don't think the other two are traveling with them. Those two are Freidken's D model and TF. He lives here in Houston and has a hangar out at Sugarland airport. There's also a T-6 in that photo. The D model might have flown out with them because it just recently flew again at Chino. About two weeks ago if I remember right.

Not to be picky, but Interstate 59 is he!! and gone from Houston, TX. It a big misconception from the local Houstonians, but its just a highway.

Here is the real I-55:

Exactically!!!

I have thought of hitting a left coast show or someplace else where I know Glacier Girl would be appearing.

And to think I got to see her and Steve Hinton at the controls...
(Face it, I want to grow up to be JUST like Steve Hinton when AND IF I grow up!!!

As far as what 59 is... we usually call it the Southwest Freeway in Houston.
But the way things are going we can safely call it "Corazon de Mexico" and only get arguments from the Mara Salvatruchas from El Salvador.
But that's for another thread! :gib:

After over flying Pearland they continued east over NASA and out over Galveston Bay.
