I jumped out of a BUNCH of them over the years. If you bloused your boots between 1960 or so and today, you have nodded off in one. They've kept me fed, watered, and shooting when no other bird would have been able. You can land it on a paper plate, it's supposedly pretty easy to maintain, and it rides like a big old caddy. It's the modern version of the C47.

The air force pretty much banned us from owning anything fixed wing beyond recon and a little bit of command and control type stuff (back in the late 40's I think) so we have always groused that by rights it should have been our plane, not the Air Forces. Of course, that shows no common sense, but what do you expect from a guy who jumps out of airplanes wearing more gear than he weighs?

if it doesn't show, I have always been axtremely grateful to those C130 crews, who never got the applause they deserved. Next time you meet a crew, tell them thanks for those of us who really know what flying is for

My one and only trip in a C-130 was Dobbins ARB to Las Vegas, and return. It was an awesome flight, and I loved every minute of it. I'd love to do it again.

i snagged a pair nomex flight gloves from a c-130 hurricane bird out of keesler afb mississippi in 93. while a hot item theft wise, my now ex wife's cousin who was stationed their said it was fair game to swipe for the individual of questionable judgement that left them. those gloves are still hanging in their, & thoroughly used!!! a testimonial to their making & craftsmanship!!! yeah, it's theft,........ but this taxpayer got bang for the buck!!! for all the stealing i've endured from the govt.....
