If you won't sign what you write, the letter should have just ended up in the trash with out having been read! "Cowardly" is a great way to put it.

My personal opinion is that people are just too offended these days. We see it on this site all the time even. If people don't want to hear your opinion they think you should be silenced. As much as I hate certain opinions, I believe that even if the aircraft was a King Air that had a Swastika and Hitler nose art and it was flown by the president of the Neo Nazi Association, no person should be able to have it thrown off a public airport. The unfortunate part of living in a free society is that you will occasionally be offended, and the most outrageous of opinions should be allowed to be heard.

Also don't confuse freedom to speak with freedom to be heard. If you have an opinion and want to be heard that doesn't give you the right to fair time. If you want your opinion heard, buy your own TV station, newspaper, website or radio station and market your ideas to people. Just because you are speaking doens't mean you have the right to force other media outlets to voice your opinion.

I’ve never heard anything negative said about the JU while we were at an airshow.

Wasn't this Nazi plane built in Spain post 1945?

Maybe they could outlaw Mercedes Benz, BMW, Porsche & Audi in Lansing as well.

Regards,
Mike

Ha ha, just the mentioning of it being owned by the Commemorative Air Force shows how easily some are offended. Gee, remember when it was the Confederate (& always will be in my heart) Air Force? Technically speaking, isn't the CAF's Ju-52 actually a CASA 352(?), another BoB leftover? hey, if you're offended by the sight of something, DON'T LOOK!!

From the rumors that I have heard, one reason they are moving to the Lansing airport is that at the Gary airport where they currently keep the aircraft they have been forced to cover the swatstika because the airport is afraid that it might offend people. Forgive me if I am wrong, but wasn't the bent cross a religous item of the Native Americans and has even been found in the pyramids of Egypt?

Seems like another case of someone who has nothing better to do than create lost causes and fight for them. Sadly it's people like the writer of the letter who will repeat history's mistakes because they choose not to learn about it. These aircraft are around to serve as a physical reminder of the war, and with any luck someone will see the plane, find it interesting, look it up and actually learn something!

As I read this I tried to picture a King Air in German WWII markings etc, made me laugh, and gave me an idea for a future modeling project! Thanks!

Please stop this rumor right here. The reason for the move is economic: the hangers are too expensive at Gary and Lansing is providing a less expensive hanger. They have been allowed to stay at Gary until a suitable alternative was found.

It’s not about a symbol or nose art painted on an aircraft, or the name of the organization that operates them. The Great Lakes Wing has been looking for a home (hangar) for several years after being vacated from the one they were renting in GYY.

It’s an attack on General Aviation from short-minded people who see dollar sings when it comes to airline traffic.

Unfortunately, there is a whole segment of society that would be just as likely want it removed from public property if it had a Christian cross or Star of David or because it represents war. The very core of this country's freedom, the United States Constitution and Bill of Rights is absolutely under assault in this country and your freedom to make certain political statements, to own weapons, to publicly practice your religion, to keep private property etc are continually being diminished at a rate unheard of in the first 200 years of this nation.

The average person has no idea what they are giving up when they allow the government to make them "safer," allow for "equal time," keeping them from being offended, or "developing land in the best interest of the community". I know many, many intelligent people, many of which on my side of the political isle, that have absolutely no clue about the all out assault on these freedoms, meanwhile people are losing their property due to obscene use of eminent domain, disallowing the Boy Scouts on school campuses, and shoving the religion of environmental activism down every students throat.

Hear, hear! I couldn't have said it better myself. Don't forget about 'em shoving the gay agenda down said students' throats at school. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

The American Indian symbol is backwards of the swastika. IIRC, Finland's WWII era insignia was backwards of the swastika, & maybe squared up, I can't recall exactly, but it wasn't a swastika either.

Again political correctness and pandering to the sqeeky voice overules common sense. I would suggest these people stop watching the History Channel as well. Don't buy books. Who the hell are these people to try and rewrite history. I will certainly be putting the 4 German kills on my Spitfire that it has. That is its history. Those that seek to re-write history are nothing short of fraudsters....
