Peter,

thanks for that, do you know their ultimate fate at CWH? are they fitted to their aircraft?

I wasnt aware of a substantial difference between Lincoln U/C and Lancaster U/C can you advise the areas of difference? and why CWH were seeking them in the first place?

Mark Cwh have them fitted to their lanc and have done so since 1988 and her first flight. The lincoln ones were capable of being restored to fly as at the time lincoln wheels and importantly tires were readily available thanks to the shackletons using the same tires. The lanc gear was switched before her first flight. Thats about all I can tell you really.. I wonder if Lanc gear can be installed on the lincoln?

Peter,

I currently have both Lancaster and Lincoln manuals at home so I will examine to see if I can identify the differences, until now I assumed it would be identical units in both types? are you aware of any specific differences?

Are there "surplus" or non-airworthy Lancaster U/c units in Canada?

I hand'nt considered that the early mark 1/ mark 2 Shackleton's may also be the same units? as the Lincoln? although I am not sure there are many of those U/C units lying around unwanted anywhere either?

Here are some pics of the latest arrival of Lincoln parts, taken at Melbourne port during quarrantine washdown, the centre-rear fuselage and one of the wing outer panel trailing edges with flaps and ailerons in place.

Once completed where will the Oz Avro Lincoln be displayed?

So perhaps the CWH Lancaster is using the Avro Lincoln RF342 undercarriage...so I would think that the original FM213 undercarriage that was not used would still be around somewhere then for another project or trade perhaps?

The original lanc gear may still be with CWH not sure we were given their original wheels and trees for our lanc many years ago.

Good morning!

I can recall looking at the Lincoln at Richmond which had its back broken, when they lifted it and the rear strap moved.

Its ID plate said Lancaster MK4.

Did not the UK lincolns have Griffon power, cetainly ours had Packard Merlins.

Whilst this information may not be of help, maybe the Aussie ones really had Lancaster legs.

For those interested,

here are some pics of the Avro Lincoln centre-rear fuselage and wing panel trailing edges are delivery to the museum.

A 4th container with the 4 propellor assemblies and wing tips has arrived in the port of Melbourne for delivery in the next week.
