My grandfather commanded one of the first divisions of tanks to go ashore at Normandy.

I considered him to be a very "tough" man, but I will never forget that when we first watched Saving Private Ryan, he started crying uncontrollably. According to my mother she had never once seen him cry before. A lot of people made the ultimate sacrifice on those beaches.

My dad came ashore at Utah beach in August of 44 with the 736th Tank Battn. that had come in from England on LST's. Two months after the landing the beach was still littered with reminders of June 6. Thanks for the posting and the great pictures.
