Although Memorial Day is now observed on the fourth Monday in May, in 1945 it was May 30th.

On May 30, 1945, my Dad, 1st. Lt. Doit L. Fish, USMCR, VMB-611 PBJ pilot, and his seven-member crew went MIA during a strike on the Kibawe Trail, near Davao, Mindanao, Philippine Islands, flying PBJ-1J "MB 11."

In November 1956, the aircraft wreckage and the skeletal remains of my father and his crew were discovered near where they were reported missing. A group burial of the eight Marines, with full military honors, was held at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, CO on July 15, 1957.

Anybody near Westlake Village, CA, the Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks cemetery does a nice memorial day service every year. It starts at 11 and get quite packed. I will be attending again this year to honor my fallen bretheran and all who have paid the ultimate price for our freedoms today.

We have a T-6 four ship Monday over Fairhaven Cemetery in Santa Ana area around 11:00 AM if anyone is in the area......

Remember the true meaning of Memorial Day by taking time out for a moment of silence in respect of your family members who have passed away and for the patriots who have defended our country since 1776.
Albany Oregon has an excellent Memorial Day observance.
Thank You Veterans you are not forgotten.

Remembering our Military Service Members:

I just returned from the American Fighter Aces Reunion in Seattle. As always it was a fun and somber event. It is hard to imagine the the sacrifices made by these men and their generation. Both those that returned and those that didn't. I am blessed to know such men.
My generation and those that follow will be forever indebted to all our veterans. We must never forget.

Attended a very fitting memorial service at Madingley cemetary, Cambridgeshire UK this morning - shame the weather didn't play ball & grounded Sally B (B-17) and the F-15 missing man formation.

However a beautiful service with taps, buglers and bagpipes - the 3,811 who are buried there and the thousands more on the wall of the missing will be never be forgotten.

On Saturday my fiancee Ariane and I attended Memorial Day at Ardennes Cemetery Belgium together with a group from the AWON (American WWII Orphans Network). For some of them it was the first time to visit their father's grave...It was an emotional and touching ceremony.
