My First Spitfire Airshow

Sat May 26, 2007 11:57 am

Breckenridge, Texas, Memorial Day weekend 1984, about 10 months after I bought my Spitfire was the first airshow we took the Spitfire to. Vietnam Veteran and Reno Race pilot Earl Ketchen flew us down accompanied by the Tired Iron Racing Team fighters and bombers. As a 450 hour pilot I was pretty wide eyed. The whole weekend was fun and went well. Thes guys were highly skilled, but really knew how to have fun. Earl wanted me to solo at BKD, but it was pretty active and crowded. On the way home we stopped at Dalhart and everyone waited while I did my solo. Spoiled me for ordinary airplanes. I just spent the night at BKD and there is talk of another airshow.

What was the year "FlyPast" did a feature on you and your Spitfire at Oshkosh? It had to be around that time. I still have that issue stowed away in one of my boxes somewhere.

Well lets' see Machine gun shoot or Brecenridge? I see the date for the shoot being changed and a trip back to BDK coming. Were short some tanks and half tracks, but we will still be able to defend the airport against Terrorists and Yankees

I'd like to make it back! BKD may not be the show it once was but something along the lines of Burnet may be possible.
