F-89 Scorpion....

One was seen leaving a certain Navy base in the high desert in the dark of the night..... 
Just wondering who got it, who they had to kill to get it and why the midnight departure (although I got a pretty good idea about that
)
Considering what part of the base it came from....that's a lot of juice with sombody or big brass ones.
Not that I expect an answer......as apparently I'm "one of them". But if this was a legit aquasition then parties responsible have nothing to fear in speaking up....if not, then the ensueing flame throwing about it will tell me otherwise.

Interesting indeed...certain parties who are supposed to know about things like this are/were completly in the dark. Which makes me a bit curious as to why.
Now if a Museum got it....and everything is above board. GREAT!
enjoy it, restore it, fly it do what ever with it as long as John & Jane Q. Public get to see and enjoy it as it should be.
If not...then "they" better STFB 'cause we all know about the Navy and old airplanes

On stuff like this, always remember that if "certain parties" are found, they will become guests of our Federal Govt for a long time. Hard to hide a F-89 restoration to any standard (flying or static). Someone will figure it out.

You said the F-89 was seen "leaving" the base....Did you mean under its OWN power, or otherwise??...
The restoration of a Scorpion for static display purposes would be interesting but not astounding, however restoring an F-89 to flying status would be Great news and would be VERY interesting....

You must remember the "golden rule" - He who has the gold, makes the rules.
I have no doubt that if you had the time and money to support the "right" 3 or 4 senatorial and congressional reelection campaigns you could easily have almost any static display plane relocated to your museum of choice.

You're not referring to the F89 at Hill in Utah are you?
(which is at the AFB museum, not a navy base?) very curious indeed...
can you elaborate why midnight? - just cause they didn't want to take
the wings off?

Honestly as far as giving money to Congressmen and Senators to get a shot at "posessing" some gate guards. Bear in mind that there are no more "enemies" to fight, the Soviet Union is gone, "terrorists" are few and far in between to find, arrest, and prosecute, so the FBI has stepped up efforts to screw over decent American Citizens.
Congressmen and Senators do not want to take the chance of ending up with Former Congressman Randy Cunningham in his suite at FCI Phoenix or Former Congressman Bob Ney in suite at FCI Morgantown.

Humm, I think the point of my post was taken wrong.
I mean to say - If you have friends in high places it is my opinion that it is 100 times easier to say, "There is a scorpion sitting somewhere and I could really take better care of it, restore it and display it better for the USAF/Navy/Marines/Army" and have your request responded to quickly and with exactly what you are asking for.
Just like air shows. I know a person who, several years ago was sitting in a Brig. General's office discussing having a C-131 attend a show. A call comes in and Senator so and so is asking for a plane to attend a show in his State at thier airfield - "Yes Sir it will be there!" After hanging up, the Officer turned to my friend and told him flatly there were no aircraft available for shows. If my friend had been a senator/congressman I have no doubt that a 2nd plane would have been available.
This has nothing to do with Hill AFB - I believe thier Scorpion has been moved inside and is well taken care of!

It was being carried but it would have been better to have seen it fly on its own power.....................I want to know who got it........I should have followed it ......................

I've been having a problem trying to figure out what a Naval Air Station
would be doing with an F-89 to begin with..did the Navy operate the F-89 at some point?. Maybe as a target drone?.. Tom

Tom over the years obsolete aircraft from the USAF was transferred to Navy ownership for testing purposes at China Lake. Usually for destructive weapons testing. Might have been out on the bomb range.
