I'm hoping some of you WWII historian types with large photo collections can help me...

I'm trying to find noseart (WWII or otherwise) from the 492d Fighter-Bomber Squadron. I'm currently in that squadron, but the unit has very little in the way of documentation I can access that shows any nose art.

I want it for......a secret reason! But here's a hint: the last time I deployed with F-15s, I requested photos of 4th Fighter Group noseart! :)

According to our squadron history, we flew B-18s, A-20s, P-35s, P-39s, P-40s, and P-47s.

So, what have ya guys got???

Randy,
I was working on that because I figured you get to this point!
Remember me asking you what sqd you were in
I lost it when my computer burned :?
Your sqd, the 492nd FS was a 9th AF P-47 unit very active in 1944-45 in the ETO :!:

Oh, Jack...I knew I could count on you.

Glad to hear that there might be some Jugs out there I could, uh, 'copy'.

Even though you may have lost it, can you recall if there was anything I would be interested in?

THANK YOU!!! Even when you're in a time of need yourself, it's amazing that you're willing to help us, too. You're one of a kind, Jack.

Anything for one of my wix friends!!
I got a good friend who's a retired B/G and very active within
the P-47 community. I'll drop him a note and have him check
for contacts from the 48th FG.
Take care......Jack

I hate to even make a comment, but is there any chance of hosting the photo on something other than Photobucket? That website is blocked by the Comm Squadron here in Afghanistan....I can't see the pic. :(

All right, WIXers...Jack sent me one EXCELLENT photo that we, uh, may be able to use in slightly modified format.

Anyone else?? I'm dying here...my Commander will let us put noseart on the jets, I just need some more 48th FG / 492 FS/BS art.

FWIW, we're probably at least going to go with the blue and white checkerboard around the nose in some way.

Randy,

Here is a site I found but is mostly "heavy" bomber art of the 492nd.

http://www.492ndbombgroup.com/cgi-bin/p ... oGalleries

I'll keep looking though.

Don't know if you've seen this site or not. There are a few nose art examples and lots of pics.

Yes, the web-birds page is basically the only reference I've had. The heritage reference material back at Lakenheath is really pathetic (as it has been at every base I've been stationed at, unfortunately).

Thanks, guys.
