Well, the rudders & elevators are installed. However, they are only sort of just stuck on the airplane and need quite a bit of work (new hardware, tightening bolts, etc.) before it can be flown. The floorboards are installed as well, albeit temporarily and will mostly have to be removed to fix them right before flight as well. This unveiling is great and all, but because I'm so far behind schedule, it's making us do a bunch of work twice. I reckon it'll all be worth it in the end though.

As you've probably guessed by now, I've got a very long day ahead of me tomorrow, so I better get to the house to try and get some sleep.

Not trying to second guess you, but don't the control surfaces need to be balanced after they are painted?

Gary,
With all the work on Ol 927 I would say she is now The Grand Lady of the Fleet. She looks so much better now, and when you say OK go fly her, then you will sit back and think of all the other things that you want to do to make her even more complete. Keep up the good work she is looking great.

Thanks so much for posting the work progress like you did. I learned so much reading this thread.

Gary, on October 27th last year I rashly asked you what was the plan for Diamond Lil.

Since then, you've kept us hooked as a tale of true grit and determination.

We've had the great priviledge to take a ride on the emotional roller coaster thru the highs and lows of this restoration with you.

History says "Come the hour. Come the man"

Well the time for "Ol 927" has come .......

And you are cetainly the man !

If I can revert to a more typical British reserved and understated manner for a moment, I would like to say one more thing .....

Thanks.

Wishing you great success at the unveiling tomorrow. Y'all have done a wonderful job. Wish I could be there; I'll be playing a FAC in Corsicana.

Can't wait to see the pictures and thanks to Gary for keeping us all updated on the progress.

See ya at AIRSHO. :P

Best wishes for tomorrow Gary. Dad has been patiently waiting in Houston for his flight to Midland since 7:30 this morning.
