Just got a call from MCAS Cherry Point. It appears the CAF Old Ominion Squadron Grumman Tracker is down 3 miles from the airport. No fatalities, but some injuries. THis just happened maybe 20 minutes ago.

Report of engine troubles.

I am praying for them.

I got this e-mail at 5:30 this afternoon from the CAF in MAF:

The CAF's S-2 Tracker, assigned to the Old Dominion Squadron, crashed today during approach at MCAS Cherry Point, NC. See the CAF's press release for further information.

All five folks onboard got out OK, one crewman has a broken wing and a broken strut. Airplane was destoryed in post crash fire. We have some initial reports but you NEVER believe the first report. Just thank the man above for taking care of another aircrew.

Two things:

1) Please pray for my friends in ODS.

2) Please nobody start chucking stones, speculating, or guessing about what happened.

As y'all might guess, there's a lot of folks who count the ODS guys as good friends and are sick with worry right now.

Thanks....

I saw a some brief news footage on the evening news showing some broken power lines and a smoky wooded area with what looked like some wreckage through the trees. Too bad there was post crash fire, but it's good that all made it out OK.

Let me just say thank you to the man upstairs for taking care of these fine folks. We have grown very close with the members of the ODS and as Jase said above, they are all very good friends!

Let's wish the crew a speedy recovery!

You are in the hearts and minds of all of the crew of the C-54 "Spirit of Freedom"

I hate news like this. Glad everyone is ok. But really sad the ship was destroyed. IT was really nice plane.

Here is what I know right now:
1) One crew member has been released from the hospital, one is being kept overnight for observation, 2 others were supposed to be released tonight and the fifth is in stable condition but is doing fine.

2) The aircraft is a total loss due to the brush fire after the power lines were clipped. From what I have heard the tail is the only thing that is really left of the aircraft.

As soon as I receive more info on the status of the crew I will pass it on.
