Call me crazy... I downloaded a Microsoft Flight Sim version of the Douglas A2D Skyshark and have been having a blast flying it... wow, I sound nerdy here :-)

Anyhow, I was wondering if there are any of these left in any sort of state. I realize they were never put into service, but I am wondering if any of the proving planes are still out there?

Oddly enough, Wikipedia says there is one in Idaho Falls, ID... any truth to this?

Thanks!

Ryan,

I believe the one in Idaho is the same one I saw at Chino in 1992.

There's an article in the Feb 2005 issue of Air Classics about the A2D, with photos. It's at Pacific Fighters in Idaho Falls.

Walt

It still exists. It was saved by John Muszala (sp?) way back when he was a kid. Iremember reading the story a long time ago and it goes something like this,...apparently it didn't have the prop blades with it when he saved it. They were made especially for the turboprop in the Skyshark. Years later he was going through someones junkyard and saw the blades he needed laying on the ground. He asked the guy "how much" ? The guy supposedly said "you know what they fit" ? John's reply was supposedly was "yes and you know that I'm your only customer" ! They apparently came to a mutual agreement and Muszala got his blades. :)

Ryan,

Just so you don't feel so lonely in the nerdy catagory...I too have been flying the AD2. In my opinion the model is lacking and the flight model is no hot rod...but it is a hoot to make carrier landings with!

Z
