BAA BAA Black Sheep DC-3

Sun Feb 25, 2007 12:11 am

I was watching my DVD of the series "BAA BAA Black Sheep" and started to wonder who's DC-3 did they use for the production?
It always seemed funny to me seeing that white & silver DC-3 operating in the combat zone. (I guess Indian Dunes really wasn't a "Combat Zone! :D "

...with a right-hand airstair door, no less.

Right Hand AND a Left Hand door! Might have been two different DC-3's.

Any word on when Vol . 2 of Black sheep is coming out? Looks like the French have Vols. 2 AND 3 already....what, the series something special over there or something?

Every day that I drive down to Camarillo I pass by Indian Dunes. Back in the good old days when I first got my ticket they were making Black Sheep. I used to see the Corsairs parked on the ramp at Chino. The runway at Indian Dunes is long gone but a small hangar is still there. The land is now under cultivation. By the way the infamous Twilight Zone Movie Vick Morrow v Huey occurred in the same area. I am afraid houses will soon cover most of this land.

I remember for years there were the Quonset huts that they used but they were torn down many years ago now.

This same DC-3 used to spend a lot of time tied down at Long Beach Airport at Aircraft Associates on Spring Street. I pumped avgas there for a time during the period "Blacksheep" was on TV. Wish I'd taken a picture or two of it but I didn't.

Back in 1977 I flew my little 150 to Chino and found a couple of Black Sheep on the ramp.

My father flew his DC-3 on the show. He also had a C-46 he restored. He was killed flying a DC-3 to Hawaii in 1979.

Its a shame that they didn't paint the Corsairs in the faded blues like they would have worn in the theater of opps. That gloss blue looked so out of place.

That looks like John Schafhausen's -7. He was a real WWII Naval fighter pilot and great guy.
