I completed my updates to the North Carolina section of the Locator. You can find it here…
http://www.aerialvisuals.ca/Locator.php?Region=NC

I stand a decent chance of visiting the area in the next few years, so I am looking forward to any contributions any of you may have.

Mike

Here is the “Need Help” list…
EDIT: The list has been moved to my most recent post.

Hey man, I have a beach house in Emerald Isle, and it is not far form Cherry Point. The last time I was over to the Cherry Point Museum was two years ago. There was a harrier Gate Guard nearby, and they had an F-4 and an F-9 Panther with a recon nose on it. I think there was an A-4 as well.

Static displays on Seymour Johnson. Note that since I left there, they added a Hun and a Sabre across the street from the F-4 and F-15 which I do not have shots of. There is NO P-51 unless something has changed since October 2006.

There is an T-33 on a pole @ Tri County Airport. (KASJ)

At KECG, (US Coast Guard Air station) there is an HU-16 Albatross an a HH-52A on display by the gate.

Check this website for pictures. http://geocities.com/ncva_warbirds/index.html

Hope this helps... :)

#5 - The P-51 at Seymour-Johnson is the one recently relocated from Dover AFB, Delaware. Don't know where it's being kept at S-J.

Bessemer, NC, is a suburb of Greenboro, on the ENE side.

#3 - There is an A-6 here: 34 54 13.50 N 76 53 32.70 W

From what you are describing these are the aircraft in Havelock. I saw them in 2005. Links to locations and photo albums available at...
http://www.aerialvisuals.ca/Locator.php?City=Havelock

The AV-8 was on a pylon on public property not far from the base. The other aircraft you mention are on display at a tourist info center not too far away.

The question now is... Are there any aircraft remaining on the base itself. Is there a public affairs email address?

It was supposedly transferred from the Air Mobility Command Museum in June 2006. It may simply have not been displayed by the time you left the base. Do you have any contacts there to confirm?

Thanks for the pics. Can Scott use them in the Registry?

Is the HU-16 a gate guard at Weeksville Road? The images I have don’t show the H-52. Where is it? Is it close to the HU-16?

It most certainly does! I especially like turning unknowns into knowns.

Good to hear that I am not going crazy. I was beginning to wonder when Randy had not heard of it! ;-)

Anybody heard of a F-94 in Bessemer?

I didn’t realize the satellite images of the area had been improved. Cool.

I found what appears to be a F-4 bone yard at…
34 54 50.35 N 76 52 59.66 W

Also another bone yard at…
34 54 28.77 N 76 52 13.58 W
…with some F-4s and what appears to be a C-47 and two C-54s! Of course we don’t know how dated these images are.

I am not sure about it going to the Air Mobillity Command Museum in Dover, I was there in the fall of last year, and the didn't have one. They used to have ared tail P-51D, but the NMUSAF moved it to another museum at a base that had P-51's there at one time, and gave the Dover Museum two transports that they really wanted.

It was transferred FROM Dover to Seymour Johnson.

The HU-16 & the HH-52A are beside each other along with a USCG Boat.
All three are gate guards.

The entrance to the base is off Weeksville Road.

According to Google Earth and Google, the Goldsboro F-86 is at:

N35-22-54.13
W077-59-51.13

The Goldsboro Police department is at 203 South Center St, 27534. IIRC, the Sabre sits on the North side of the building, between the parking lot and the building.

I'll check with some of my buds to find out where the Mustang is.

Yes, Scott, please use the shots in the registry.

#12 - The North Carolina Transportation Museum is :

35 41 11.00 N 80 26 08.00 W

Their website indicates a railroad and auto oriented museum, with
no indications of an aircraft on site. The museum is located in a
former Southern Railway maintenance facility.

#11 - The Carolinas Wing of the CAF is located at Moore County Airport
(KSOP).

35 14 14.00 N 79 23 55.00 W

Not sure which hangar they're in, but I'm sure there is a sign of
some sort.

Check. None of the better map images for that area show the Sabre. It may be a recent display (last 10 to 5 years or so). I am putting the new coordinates down as “Area”, but people should not have trouble finding it.

They are getting the DC-3 from the Science Museum in Durham. When I was last in area, 2005, the DC-3 had already been moved and restoration had begun. If you are going to include one an airframe in a transportation collection, the DC-3 is the right item.

Here is the “Need Help” list…

#1: A F-94 may be displayed someplace in Bessemer. Where is it?

#2: Apparently there is a F-84 displayed at a school in Candler. Where exactly is this one located?

#5: There is a P-51 displayed at Seymour Johnson AFB. Where exactly is it?

#6: There may be an FJ Fury displayed at a 'Grifton Park' in Hickory. I have not been able to confirm the park or the Fury. Can you?

#7: There may be a FJ Fury displayed in Jacksonville. Can you confirm? If so where exactly is it?

#9: There may be a F-86 displayed in Maxton. Can you confirm? If so where exactly is it?

#10: There may be a C-123 displayed in New Bern. Can you confirm? If so where exactly is it?
