This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Taylor, thanks for posting the pics, they will look good in the O Club/NCO Club. Glad that you came by. Hope that you can bring your Dad next time. Its great to see a young person with the same passion and determination as the "Great generation". It gives me hope for the future.

Here is an L-5 pic from Harvard Army Air Field, Nebraska, flying pursuit curves for scanner/flexible gunners on one of the runways. The trainees were crewmen from the 501st Bombardment Group (VH), 315th Wing. The 501st flew B-29B aircraft with only a radar-guided tail turret and the new APQ-7 Eagle bombing radar set. At some point it was decided that the waist scanners should have a .50 on a flexible mount that would be mounted where the waist bubbles had been on normal B-29s. Harvard's Gunnery School came up with this truck trainer that they would drive up and down an unused runway while being "attacked" by the L-5. Gun cameras were mounted on each gun for grading purposes.

I think this is the only wartime photo of an L-5 that I have in my collection...
L-5 42-98780 'Lil-Les'
All the info I have for this observer is that it was in the MTO; in Italy or Corsica. Anyone know what the white stripes on the tail denote? I have little knowledge of L-bird markings, I'm afraid.

Taylor, thanks for the post. They will look great in the "O" club. As for the hinges, yes, they can be changed, but, it effects the price. OK, gotta ask, what does the ME-109 stand for. What is the whole story.

Taylor thanks for the photo's. I have a lot of time in J-3's over that Lake View area, 30F. There is nothing like a dawn patrol from there or a bunny hunt over the lake
