We already got a small amount of hail this morning......




Hopefully, this bad mother that's coming will pass us by like approaching rain to Midland does.

I remember a day out at Camp Bullis and the sky just turned black. I know what you mean by the photos not doing it justice- it's not dark gray like the photos show, but jet black. When the storm hit, the thunder came once every few seconds, and the sky was lit up but it was like twilight with a weird glow while we sat through it under ponchos. Those rain drops felt like they were an inch round. I know those storms got ugly- I assisted with rescues from underpasses while working with San Antonio Fire Department. If you haven't been to Texas, when you drive on the underpasses, you will see markers which indicate the average height of water that washes through during thunderstorms- the terrain doesn't soak up water fast enough, and many people get killed by ignoring the markers and driving into 10 inch water which almost instantly rises up 4-6 feet. Small price to pay for such a beautiful state. I love Texas and have told my wife that we might wind up there some day. I was only there for 18 months, but there is a lot I miss about Texas. I miss the live oaks, the bluebonnets, horseback riding on ranches and trails that went on forever. I miss Shiner Bock. And I miss that way a gully washer cut the heat of the day and turned the sky a beautiful color. Thanks for the memories, Gary. I'm going to go listen to some Bob Wills now.

I hear ya', Peter! We try to get it inside when we have room, but since it pays no rent and it's not a CAF airplane, it obviously doesn't get put in first. We try, but we just can't get it in here all the time. Sorry.

Thats storm remind me vividly of a MASSIVE storm we had in Sydney in 1992 i got 1 very crap photo of it, i think, it was amazing sight.. In the west of sydney this maybe 10-20km BLACK cloud was rolling across to the coast.. i had and still to this day never seen such a omnious end to the world i thought.

What happened as it passed over was to go down in Sydney history as one of the most violent storms ever. In our small street section and local area we counted over 400 medium and big tress that were felled by the winds, much proeprty was damaaged also.

Sydney has at times many storm and strongwinds , but this 1992 storm was amongst the strongest and most visible in destruction i have ever recorded and remeber.

And that photo shows it sort of like.. scary stuff

sabre driver, i take it you mean the jan 92 storm that took out the north shore... i have photo's of trees with no branches thinner than your thumb and all of the bark stripped off on the windward side plus houses with trees through them, thankfully my parients place (where i was living at the time) was just on he edge, we only lost power for 2 days... it was impressive to watch.

Gary, it may hav been before your time,but I remember 2 at BKD. We finished the show and were about unwind with beer, Bar-B-Q, BS and probably the 30 cal; when the sky began to darken. Then I notice the clouds on the north side are moving a different direction than the ones on the south. Then the sky turns an shade between purple and black, sort of glowing that I never saw before. This is pretty scary, I ain't no Okie, and I never saw this before. I start looking for a place to hide and all I see is tin hangars that look like big sails wating to go. Finally I decide to watch wherever Big John goes and try to get under him. BKD made it ok, but a tornado killed a man at Eastwood. Another time we were looking west at approaching storm clouds, and I sked Eddie about putting the plane in the hangar. He said, "aw it ain't gonna hit here. About 20 min later it was raining so hard you could not hear yourself talk inside the hangars and water was ankle deep everwhere.
