Missing Man Formation Flight Photos and a video

Most pilots never experience the joy of formation flight. I am truly a lucky man as I get to do it fairly often. These shots were taken last year when I flew with a group of folks known as San Diego Salute. These wonderful people make themselves available for memorial missing man flights and other flyovers for special occasions. This particular flight was done for a funeral at Fort Rosecrans. When people ask me why I drive from Bakersfield to Camarillo every week taking some four hours for the round trip, to work on war birds, I show them pictures like these.

These were taken last fall. Closer formation in smooth air. Not the Blue Angels but nice and tight.

Great shots of NAS. North Island, twin hangers and the carrier pier,brings back memories when I was stationed there in 79-80, made a few WestPacs out of there on the USS Coral Sea CV-43 and the USS Ranger CV-61

brought back many thoughts. As a young Navy lad I wandered around the
old emplacements and Park at Rosecrans/PL/CNM..a lotta history was all around you...
One couldn't help but feel in awe of the history that the area exuded at
every turn, it seemed. Very lovely place Dago...

Dan, is that Montgomery Field? If so that is where I learned to fly in "79. It looks like Mt Soledad also. Say hi to Terry Brennan, I got some good formation experience with him and Bill Cherwin. It may be Bonanza, but it is a fun little sport plane and the easiest thing to fly I've ever been in.

Wow Bill! Small world. I see Terry two or three times a year and I will say hello for you. The shots were taken at Gillespie. I love flying around Daygo! I first flew down there from FUL in 1976 when I got my ticket and have been in love with the place ever since. Hey why don’t you fly the Spit out to CMA and we can do some formation that would make some pretty pictures! By the way do you ever get down to Pagosa Springs a very good friend of mine runs an FBO there.
