IS IT AN OPTICAL DELUSION, OR IS THE HANGAR FLOOR TURNING GREEN?

So Gary.......are you going to be in the left or right seat on her maiden voyage? If you don't have your multi, would that limit you from piloting from the right seat?

NO! The floor is NOT turning green. I have taken great steps to insure that NOTHING in the hangar gets overspray on it when painting this pig. This especially includes other aircraft...and the floor.

Yikes..has that plane been eating Mexican food?

Paul,
Some of us think you need your glasses looked at--I prefer to call 927 a sow rather than a pig, but a curly tail is a definite option!! Just kidding about the glasses, but that old airplane was designed ugly and no amount of make-up can totally cover that up. The new configuration and paint are definitely going to look great when she goes on tour, and the enthusiasm from WIXers shows that things are on the right track.

It all depends on is the a/c is certified for single pilot ops ie C-1/S-2, Lancaster, A-26 ect. B-24 I would think is a 2 pilot machine.

Zane,
I still sort of subscribe to the B-17 packing crate theory, although being around the thing has changed my opinion somewhat. All B-24's have character, that is for certain! When you are researching the different configurations, manufacturing differences, etc. the B-24 is really an interesting machine compared to the B-17. They both got the job done in their own way regardless of looks.

Not being a pilot, I prefer the '24s to the '17s... so take that for what it's worth.

Scott,
I was just funnin with ya. My Uncle always brought up the packing crate thing when B-17 guys called "his" airplane ugly...( don't tell ... I think the B-17 is a better looking airplane)

Still a shame that AM927 was not painted as a Liberator GR I - would have been great to see a package of four 20 mm under the forward bomb-bay (and she could have been painted as her sister AM929 which had 5 U-Boat kills) still any scheme is better then desert pink.
re Bomb Bay Keel - after the sell off at Greybull WY of one of the last tanker fleets wasn't there a couple of PB4Y-2 hunks that were being used for parts - the bomb bay was one part of the B-24 that never really changed much in 6 years of production.
Would suggest that one the CAF gets around to opening up the Bomb Bay that AM927 be securely jigged nose to tail. When Consolidated called it a keel they were not kidding. This would also be a great time to deskin /reskin the fuselage below the wings - reinstalling the missing longeron's & stringers cut for installing the passenger windows (a good sourse of this material is the belly canoe when it is eventually removed)
Does the CAF have any plans to reinstall the FE's (Flight Engineers) panel. While the FE's throttles can be just for show the rest of the panel could be live (For those who do not know, the B-24A / Liberator B. I, had a FE's panel (just like FiFi / B-29) just aft of the pilots seat facing aft with the panel located on the fwd bomb-bay bulkhead. Can we get a shot of this area as it is today?
* * *
Alternate paint scheme - how about all white with a red cheveron and a hunking big Conferedate Flag on the tail
Question - since the CAF changed its name, did Col J Culpepper get retired - is now the term Yankee Air Force the next to be affected by the PC crowd.

Zane,
I was kidding too! Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder or yoke-holder I guess. Seriously though, when I was in Midland a couple of weeks ago I had a short visit with two gentlemen. One of them told me he was a pilot in a replacement crew with one of the Third Division Bomb Groups that converted from the B-24 to the Fort after Gen. Doolittle took command of the 8th AF. He had trained in the States on the Lib but preferred flying the B-17. The other gentleman was stationed at Las Vegas AAFld and told me that they had one B-24N assigned for gunnery training at the end of the war. Prior to this I didn't think any single tail Libs had gone anywhere except for test purposes.
I really enjoy being able to poke fun at one another, but if this turns into a real B-17 versus B-24 battle I apologize in advance. I didn't intend for that to happen, just havin' fun!
