Steve be nice. Your condescending remarks about Tom Cruise are not warranted or desired on this or any other public forum.

John...Don't know whether that was sarcasm or not. If it was, please let me know before I respond with something harsh. :?

Mudge the curious

No sarcasm Mudge, I was quite serious. No high horse but in my book personal attacks are not warranted, desired, wanted or tolerated. Cruise is has offered to do something good for the CAF and that should not go unnoticed. Remarks like those offered above often end up being deal spoilers. If somebody holds ill-will towards another individual for any reason, it should be kept private.

John

If this grade school chatter spoils a deal, perhaps Mr. Cruise should grow some thicker skin as he certainly seems to dish it out.

Regards,
Mike

First off, just to set a record straight in my book, I met Tom Cruise once, and he was very nice to me. He has a restored P-51D which is named Kiss Me Kate, and is beautiful. Why would it be so wrong or bad for Tom Cruise to want to be involved in the CAF's P-82? God knows if I was in his position that I would be wanting to do some stuff like that as well. Instead of knocking the guy for his personal beliefs, we should be thankful that someone wants to come forward and dump a little money into a rare warbird restoration. Now the news with the P-82 and the NMUSAF is interesting. It is going to comedown to who owns it. If the NMUSAF owns it, she will never fly again. I do not know anything of the details, so I am not even going to venture a guess of what is going on.

I thought it was a P-51K?

In regards to the P-82 ownership issue:

Hey everybody, I know we are extremely interested in the outcome in all warbird issues, however in this case we should probably sit quietly on the sideline and wait for the CAF to make an announcement when it is appropriate. The last thing we should be doing is saying stuff that could negatively impact the outcome.

If Tom Cruise were a private citizen, I would agree. However he uses and needs the media, he puts himself out there in ways probably no one else on this list could (except maybe famous Spitfire pilots . . .)
So, when he goes on national TV, acts bat-s&&t crazy, takes on other media stars in ad hominem attacks, and has an all-out media blitz of lunacy for at least 6 months, I say he is pretty much fair game. Warbirds or not. And also, any interview I've read with him lately, he has a lunatic amount of enthusiasm for just about everything. Sorry if I just blew the deal. (sheesh, give me a break . . .)

Regarding the T-6. I always saw it staged on the ramps at Patterson Field (the active airfield). Never saw it fly though. Of course this was back when Wright-Patt had F-16s stationed there and Springfield was flying A-7s.

I saw the T-6 out in front of base ops near the C-21 hangar...that was back in the mid 90s and the word in AFMC HQ was T-6 was very much unofficial. It was said the (then) museum director gave rides to VIPs in it. During the same period I saw an intact Stearman in their restoration area and wondered if that wasn't flyable.

Now back to topic...a friend said he saw Cruise's name listed as a F-82 sponsor an a CAF web page.
Anyone else seen it?
I looked and I didn't even see a mention of the plane on the CAF site.

I'll let Brooke Shields sponsor my warbird anytime. A roomate of a friend of a friend dated her in college- word was she was a really nice person.

Tom Cruise? He's a great actor, he owns a Mustang. In light of his far-sighted, educated public commentary, at least he has those two things going for him....

And if you were him would you want to be publicly identified as one half of "Tomcat"? To me, that sounds like a really cheesy, B-movie science fiction experiment gone wrong... but on second thought, it suits him perfectly in light of his "enlightened" scientific background....

A month ago this was stated on the DFW Wing's page at http://www.dfwwing.com/R4DMidland_Oct22_05.html, but now it isn't. If you google "cruise site:dfwwing.com" and click on "Cached" you can still see it in Google's cached version of the page.

The webmaster who leaked the info has been reassigned to Midland where his new job is to stay up all night stirring paint stripper for Gary. (Okay, I made that part up.)

Perhaps if Mr. Cruise funded the "F-15 Reporter" recovery for the NMUSAF, they might be willing to drop the F-82 issue. 8)

I repeat my earlier comment on this topic: "Let's all stop being quite so grade-schoolish, shall we"?

And no, I don't need a bunch of people chiming in. Just let's drop this before somebody gets pissed, public figure or not.

Boo Hoo, I'm going to tell my Mom.

I never new owning a warbird or being a celebrity gave you God like status. Only to be looked at with glassy eyed reverence by Joe Public.

I'm sure this forum is the first place Tom or any other person that's going to buy an airplane looks before purchasing. Just to get a feel of what we Wixer's think about them. Darn it Kate, the people at WIX don't like me, I'm selling the Mustang and quiting aviation. Wahhhhh!

I almost didn't buy a house because of all the World Wide Web/ Forum/ Blog backlash.... Good grief Charlie Brown!
