This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

I agree with going to get Keebird. Anyone want to come with me? As for the Lake Mead aircraft, why won't they bring it up?

It's inside a national park.

That B-29 in the pictures is on federal property and the military still lays claim to the aircraft.

Maybe so, but you probably wouldn't have gotten one. And a C-17 has yet to be operated on skis.

Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't 4 brand new B-29 engines left behind? Why would anyone leave 4 new engines there?

I'll go get the B-29 parts with you Mustangdriver. And on the way back we'll dig out a couple of P-38's out of the ice.

Any money or efforts you may wish to put towards a B-29 recovery would certainly be appreciated by Fifi...

BTW, one of the rudder attach hinges on the "Kee Bird" is from NEAM's "Jack's Hack". They made a trade for one that was serviceable.

I have a couple of quick questions:
Is there a book out there, website or any resource out there that details KEEBIRD's story? Aircraft history, last mission and all?
Also it seems that a fair amount of pictures were taken but was there any video taken?
And lastly if the engines on KEEBIRD were rebuilt replacements then what happened to the original engines?

There was a book titled something like "World In Peril" that tol the story of the Kee Bird and her unit.
As for video, PBS did a documentary about the recovery attempt (including the disatrous outcome) for their "Nova" series, called "B-29: Frozen In Time." I know it was available on VHS..don't know about DVD.

Kbirds done and is now a memory. Instead of going to the great expense of going to her resting place and trying to salvage engines and such, why not send a hefty donation to FIFI and B29 Doc. I am sure most of the americans on this forum would sooner see 2 B29s in the air again instead of a set of engines and bits from an almost flyable one?
