Count me in! Better yet, I suggest we have some of Doug's "warbird babes" pose nude so we can all vote on the best one for Lil's artwork. How much you wanna bet that thread would break a record for number viewed.

Hey Gary,

I am heading your way with a couple of new production side blisters for FiFi. Should be there late Thursday. Will you be around?

Bill, Hmmm, a Spitfire ride in trade for your nose art suggestion........I won't have to work on that Merlin after we fly it, will I? Wait...that's a dumb question.....Of course I will!

Taigh, yes, I will be here. Just try to give me an idea of when you'll be around to make sure I haven't left for the day.

Everyone else...As fun as the nose art topic can be, I also know that it has the ability to get rather heated. One of the reasons that nothing has been done to AM927 (configuration wise) for the last 30+ years is because there were always several different groups who were addamant about "their" idea of how the airplane should look. There's nothing wrong with feeling strong about an idea...nothing at all. The problem is that often times people get so wound around the axle about their ideas that they won't even consider anyone else's.

I'll fess up here and tell you all that I personally didn't want ANY nose art for AM927, as it didn't have any to begin with. My plan for this project was to portray this airplane as close to original as it was going to be as a B-24A, and nose art is not one of the things this airplane would've had (see, I can't just let it go either  ). So, my idea was voted off the island. No biggie, I'll just do what the elected staff says to do. After all, it's OUR airplane, not MY airplane, and I think that's why we have the elected staff to begin with.....to make those types of decisions that make everyone mad.

I'm sure that whatever noseart we pick, it will piss someone off. If we put some ultra fine, large breasted woman on the nose, it would piss off some ugly-ass, small tittied woman. If we put a big bomb on the side, it'll piss off Bill Greenwood.......ooops.....I mean, piss off people that don't like bombs, wars, etc. (Sorry Bill, couldn't resist. ) If I put an American Flag on the side, it'll piss off the British. If I put a British roundel on the side, it'll piss off everyone else. (Again, only kidding.)

My point is that we'll choose something that, in our opinions, apply to THIS airplane. If it turns out that nobody likes it at all, well...it can always be removed. So just bear with us and we'll do our best to give Ol' 927 something to be proud of.

Thanks for understanding!

Gary ~ as a Brit, can I just say ~ I actually liked the big American Flag scheme :D

Maybe that's because I understand that this airplane needs to get out on tour and sell rides to as many people as possible across America.

I also appreciate that any paint scheme that doesn't attract Joe and Jane Public is going to effect the revenue potential. And if we want to see the bombers continue to fly, the warbird movement needs to engage with all generations.

Whatever the scheme turns out to be, I'm sure that it will create a lot of media interest and that's got to be good news for us all !

Keep up the good work ~ it's much appreciated

I'm with you Gary and honestly I don't care what is put on the plane. I think it would be neet to see her change paint every year  to honor a different group (although with the 24A that number could be counted on one hand).

I just was asking that "IF" it was another female figure similar to LIL that it not be "PC'd" up. It wouldn't have been in the forties and if we are truly giving homage to the past then the past should stay the past. History should be history and not a polished version to make people feel warm and fuzzy.

A guy I used to know (another Gary actually) was the customer support lead for a WW2 on-line game I used to play. He had to deal with the complaints head on whenever something would change, get upgraded, etc. He had this little gem when it came his views of the customers:

"We could get them all laid and they'd still B%^ch!"

Sometimes you just need to press forward and worry about opinions later. We all know what opinions are like....Keep up the good work.

Oh, trust me, I understand your worries about a PC'd piece of nose art. It bugs me too when I see Yellow Rose with the vest on and others that have been forced to do similar. But trust me, that won't be an issue with what we have in mind for now. ;-)

Oh, an we're now over 1,000 posts for this thread! Thanks for everyone's input.

Gary, you know me, always flexible and open to compromise. So if you/they don't want Bevo on one side and a great looking Babe on the other; then how about a great looking babe riding on Bevo's back? You see how quickly the patriots on this site got behind the naked lady idea, and you wouldn't believe the PMs I have gotten in support of my suggeston. The most ardent perverts, err that is, patriots are those jet pilots. Do you know why they wear those visors, so you can't see the salacious grin on their face. They are all set to see if Doug can get those lovely ladies from Dallas out for another, shall we say, less formal posing session. As for your bomb idea, a bomber ought to have a bomb, but wasn't there one with a good looking lady sitting on a bomb? And I don't recall any lonely GIs far from home with a photo of just a bomb pinned up on their wall!

Bill
If you had a FLIR system on that Spit of yours you might understand the value of these new toys our military has and you might also get that "perv" idea reenforced! But I'm not going to say anything more, I'm a good boy now

Gary
I could carless what the nose art is (unless I don't like it  ). I just can't wait to see the aircraft.

Seconded by another Brit! Its only paint after all, and there are some who will complain that it is the wrong shade. I would suggest thay can take a running jump.

How about one of the hangar cats who help so much with the project (well according to them anyway  )

there he is doing some ritual involving a mostly naked lady and a rubber hose.

Or as we like to call it, Tuesday. :P

Gary, much as I'd like to see some fine, bareback lass on a bomber, I'm casting my non-binding vote for 48 stars/13 stripes. It just doesn't get any more patriotic than that, which would be a sure draw at airshows.

By the way, I know you've heard it a hundred times, but THANK YOU for all the hard work and dedication you pour into this and all the rest of your projects. Out of curiosity, what brand of beer should I buy you when I finally get the chance to meet ya? :)
