No photos of the B17 model but I did look at it for a while. Your right. Outstanding! As for the museum being back in Minn. :toimonster:

Those SBD dive brakes look a bit "tired"...

Indeed, I took that photo in close to show what condition they were/are in after many years under water.

I think he has a pic of it already but not close up. If I remember correctly there's a bullet hole through one or both gear doors on the LH side?

No luck, I looked yesterday and could not find a hole. Asked around as well and no one seemed to know about a bullet hole. Hmmm! Doesn't mean there isn't one somewhere though.

Yes it is in the port gear door. And as the people out there , They don't have a clue about the Planes like we did in MN. We all knew where the planes been threw there lives, And they all FLEW many times during the year. Ah! the old days. Pappy

Question?

Why are most warbird's painted 'shiny'? Is it a preservation quality in the paint that makes them shiny? Do shiny warbirds last longer between paint jobs that matt finishes?

Not trashing/thrashing paint jobs and restorations and not looking for the inevetible , I know "you do not own it so and if I want it another way send a check" BS

Just curious why the shiny vs. matt?

Thanks

Bob always wanted his A/C to shine. Alot of his colors are not what it was in the squdrons but we did not really care becaue it was great to just be part of 28 flying A/C. You see alot of BP in the A/C also. Most of thease were painted in the mid 80's and even thou shiny the look good for 25 yr old paint.

Not complaining at all.

Just curious what the reasoning was in shiny vs. matte?

Thanks!

Not a fan of the gloss look but I do understand why it's common these days. Actually the Hellcat, Tigercat and Corsair look not so bad with the glossy look. The P-40, P-47 and P-63 not so much :|

Most Warbirds were repainted glossy for ease of cleaning. Easier to wipe oil, ect... from a high gloss finish than a flat finish.
Plus like was said prior, these were painted many years ago before the trend toward more authentic paint schemes that are in vogue now.
I prefer gloss just because of what I said earlier, easier to clean and keep clean!!! :D :D
