ARE there any black pilots that fly currently fly Mustangs? I don't know that I've ever heard of any. And typically, if you're a woman, black, or whatever, that's usually front page news time and time again. So my guess is that there aren't any out there...especially enough to have a squadron of them for the "accuracy" that's being questioned in the movie.

Just my $.02 worth.

and by the way.., they are trying to make this movie authentic and delving on 'accuracy'.., which is why they are dressing up the non-black pilots for the flying scenes!!!

Unlike many here, if i made a movie id go the extra bit and ensure accuracy is adhered to.

If they have a budget of $x m - a few more $ isnt going to matter i feel.

Are you suggesting that they should train the non-pilot lead actors to be rated in P-51's?

Or train black pilot's, already type-rated in P-51's to be actors?

In 1-3yrs lead in time for the movie if they had of used some planning....... they could of got maybe some black americans trained ( since everyone on this forum claims there are none in the USA it seems) to fly mustangs.

Quite simple. Uprate some pilots.

Larry, I mean, Flyingheritage, you should really just settle down a bit since most of us really do not care about your wacky rants. Trying to make something out of nothing is really getting boring.

I am sure the production planner did not want to spend a few million more dollars of Lucas money to train someone for a job that someone else can do and I am sure the owners of these aircraft do not really feel like having their birds used as trainers.

The movie is about honoring the Tuskegee Airmen and that alone is reason to celebrate this movie being done.

The picture is of the owner of the P40 who was flying his P40 for the movie, similarly another friend of mine was there flying his P51 most probably with a similar outfit on.
Both of these gentlemen own and operate their own aircraft and do not turn them over to just any pilot to fly them about. The alternative would have been no/fewer real aircraft available for filming.

I know of a couple of really nice black fellows who fly for several major US airlines - and one of them flys a T-6 as well - Ober and Mike should know who I'm talking about.
On the other hand, I can't believe I'm adding to this thread... It's pointless.

They wanted real planes in the movie. They had to compromise to get real planes filmed. Sure a few people are questioning the original post author. He's questioning the integrety of the film casting and those flying in it. He should be willing to have the same scrutiny on him as he puts on the topic or not post about it.

Frankly, I'm happy the film is being made and with a big named director and a big budget. Anything Hollywood level is always a compromise to get things done. We can wax over idealistic all we want but the reality is this is who they picked and who they used. I see it in no way detracting from the overall goal of the movie. Those that think otherwise are welcome to thier opinion, but then again I have my own opinion on the matter too. Debating the whole issue is just gossip mongering.
