Don't start it, Chris! I'll be out there to sequester you next...

I don't have the intelligence for accounting/budgeting, but several years back we had some budget issues to deal with where I work, and part of the solution was to furlough our contractors for 3 weeks during December. Everyone wants more free time during the holidays, right? Anyway, there was one individual that was exempt from the furlough, and her job was to go from floor to floor and hand wipe each leaf on every potted plant in the building...still makes no sense.

LA area DMV offices have one employee who has a step ladder & a feather duster. His job is to visit all DMV locations & dust the CCTV cameras. Apparently the other employees are not smart enough to stand on their desk & use a duster. Seeing as my ex sister in law was the manager of a DMV office I think they may be correct in that assumption.

Getting back to the "smaller increase in spending" resulting in cuts..... that points to the fact that someone is lying about the true rate of inflation...

And NO ONE still hasn't done anything with the gas prices yet.

After reading the messages on this topic I started looking through my pictures. I went to the NMUSAF and was one of the first through the door, I made my way to the back and saw a man on a scissors lift using a floor model dust mop cleaning the top of the right wing of the B-36. If I find the picture I'll post it.

Already there - we're in our third year of frozen salary increases for Federal Employees. There are some caveats, obviously. Automatic step and grade increases still happen for instance. But the quasi-"COLA" adjustments have stopped and people at the top of their grade/step ladders (a substantial portion of the Federal workforce) aren't getting any increases.

Given the nature of the sequestration (lowering the rate of growth rather than really "cutting") it's pretty obvious that the hits are being made in areas that will inflict pain and generate negative press. Consider what happened at Agriculture/FDA for instance: the head of the FDA said that U.S. meat production would be cut (processing plants shuttered for a little over two weeks) because health inspectors would be furloughed. Even the inspectors' UNION called BS on that, but everyone involved (Union, industry, Congress) still panicked and managed to get $55 million in funding restored to avert the (false threat of) furloughs.

As a private sector aviation worker I've taken 15% paycuts, lost my pension, went 8 years without a raise, been layed off, etc.. Nothing personal, but when the outfit you work for (US Gov.) is $16T in the hole something needs done.

I may have strayed a bit off topic. :)

Frozen salary increases? 15% pay cuts? Lost pensions? No raises? Nothing personal but you guys sound like the lucky ones. The past several years I have witnessed countless numbers of good people (albeit some who originally started out with bad decision making in their portfolios) lose everything and then some. Some could have done better to curb their losses, but many others simply couldn't avoid the recessions strong pull downward. Are there many directions to point the finger of blame? You better believe there is, but this forum is not the place for that discussion. But what I can say is that if by chance you still have anything that resembles consistent employment, you should count your blessings. It's still a very confused and inconsistently poor worldwide economy out there with bankruptcies, foreclosures and widespread unemployment still rampant. I certainly wish no ill will towards anyone but there were, and are lessons, to be learned by what has transpired over the past several years of hardship and there's plenty of blame to be passed around in all directions. I sincerely hope we all have learned some valuable lessons to move forward for the better.

The bottom line is quite simply to start with YOU! To help improve your City, State, Country and most important, your own situations in life we all need to think a bit longer before we act. Study a bit longer before you stuff that ballet box, read a bit longer before you sign that financial document, stand back and ask yourself do you really need to own more 'stuff' you really don't need. Streamline your life. You'll be quite surprised how much sense 'less is more' really makes in your personal lives.

Ugh! Good morning huh? Sorry for straying a bit as well.

If I was having financial problems at home I would cut back in non-essential areas that made the biggest difference and caused my family the least pain and bother. Our administration seems to be taking the opposite approach and is cutting back in areas that really aren't the problem to start with and which are areas that create the most pain for their constituents.

Nice people, huh? Well, you voted for them!

Well I can certainly admit my personal voting track record is quite poor. My race horse seems to always lose. Makes one wonder though how better off we would be if sometimes the loser wins. Wait!!!! ... don't go there ...

Now to slap my hand off the keyboard for the ever challenging desire to delve into a Political rant wants to take over. Oops! ... Back to posting more meaningless photo threads

Found the picture of the B-36 being dusted off, well in this case the end of it. The lift came down and the duster probably left for the day.
