I think you'll find that it contains a lot more original A-36 parts than you might expect.

Yep, that's why 42-83738 is the "logical" choice. We'll see soon enough, I reckon. :D

So, is the aircraft going to be restored as an actual A-36 dive-bomber, complete with dive brakes? Or will she be rebuilt as a "representitive" P-51A?

A-36 all the way...dive brakes and all...even the correct scoop and radiator. The hold up thus far is getting the wing completed...which should be done next summer...or fall.

Cool! Thanks for the info. It'll be great to see such a rare Mustang variant (relative?) represented.

Just in case it is 42-83738 here is a old photo of her from 1969.
The IL ANG sticker is on it because the guy who owned it apparently was a member of the IL ANG at that time and he used to fly the A-36A to monthy drills. Aircraft was registered at N4607V.

THAT is a photo for not only the ugliest war bird finishes thread, but also the CAF house livery thread. I know this is not a CAF plane, but regardless some of those finishes were a bit more than tough to diegest. ;)

Are my eyes deceiving me, or is that a Malcolm hood on the plane? I don't see any crossbars on the sliding canopy! Can someone explain?
