Which brings up the impossibility of a P-38 gathering....Steve Hinton simply can't be in 6 cockpits at one time!!

Oh, for another qualified P-38 jock somewhere...anyone willing to take THAT task on?

Ron Fagen seems happy with Kevin Eldridge's work.

I am guessing that the photos are of Putt Putt Maru's first flight. If so, that would be Steve Hinton at the controls.

I think that was Jim Fauz, the former LSFM President flying that aircraft.

nope that was Steve Hinton doing the initial test flights. Lee Lauderback and Eric Huppert both of Stallion 51 will be the qualified pilots on Putt Putt which will be headed to canada in a few weeks for repaint.

I think Ray Dieckman is P-38 qualified as well.

There are several more pilots that are currently qualified to fly the P-38 than even those already named, including John Maloney, Rod Lewis, Rob Ator, Gunny Perdue, and Nelson Ezell. Though of course Hinton has more hours flying a P-38 than any current P-38 pilot. Some day, I would love to see his log book!

And of course, you could always invite TFC's chief Pilot Pete Kynsey, and his boss Stephen Grey!

After all both flew the late lamented TFC example, and although it's been a while since they flew one, I'm sure they'd soon be at home again. :D

I assume Stephen Grey would be able to fly a P38 in the US, and not be stopped as he would be here by some ill thought out JAR regulation that stops him flying arcraft over a certain weight and engine configuration, due to his age and a past medical condition that was succesfully treated? :x

Btw, good to see you posting here John.

Cheers

Paul

Where can I get a brief history of Putt Putt after it left LSFM (or before it got there)? Who has it now? Is it headed back to the airshow circuit? Why was it grounded? Enquiring minds want to know.

Boy, I'm still sore that bird left my back yard... :P

Any chance of "Tangerine" or the War Eagles P-38L getting back in the air anytime soon?

Putt Putt is now owned by Tom Blair and is based at Stallion 51 Kissimmee FL. It has just come out of a complete overhaul. It will be repainted into a new color scheme in a few weeks at sky harbour in Canada and then will be used by Lauderback for USAF heritage flights.
