Those were done by the father of the remarkable contemporary aviation photographer Victor Archer, and edited and archived by Victor. Victor's wonderful current work is occasionally posted on WIX, especially his air race work.

It is due both to the father's shooting skill (he was an aerospace engineer of some sort and not any sort of pro photog) and to Victor's remarkable editing skills that we have these photos to look at today.

Just thought I'd throw in some credit here, as most folks have no idea what's really involved in the survival of storehouses of photos like this. It's a labour of love -- kind of like Warbirds themselves, I guess...

Yes thanks for that Neal. It would be nice to thank Victor and Robert for preserving and sharingthese windows in time. I got kick out of seeing the crewman sitting on the side of the Cutlass cockpit talking with the public, just like you'ld fnd today at an air show.

Ahh, glad to see this thread back on the front page..and with the photo's posted in ONE thread! :?

I'm getting "red x's" on the 1st four photos, the Turbo Transporter, and the '29 in your
1st post, Shay. Ditto some missing ones in your 2nd post. Maybe my 'puter or AOL glitch, tho.

Mike Furline is the guilty party who brought Mr. Archer's photos to our attention on the WIX.
Truly splendid stuff!!! Victor still has 40 more from the '55 Philly he has yet to post!! Waiting for
more is gonna' be tough. He probably would appreciate knowledgeable folks logging on to his
page to help with the ID's as some of these birds are unlabeled.

As to the YH-16A..I was under the impression this bird didn't make its 1st flight with the turbines till
December 1955, and perished in Jan. 1956. I knew it was a Piasecki, but little else, so my understanding may be off..

Thanks for the link on this one Shay. I was wondering about the floats on the '-123. Never saw that mod before....

Wow!! Interesting to see color photos of Willow Grove NAS from the 50's. It's just minutes away from Me...

Note how the Public Dressed Up in nice clothes back then, when visiting an Air Show.
They don't look like a bunch of smelly turds like today's "Larry the Cable Guy" Air Show Crowd...

Everyone had so much style & class back then...
Too bad that era is gone forever & People could care less now. Heck, Even some of the Active Duty Military Personel at Willow Grove could care less about wearing a proper Uniform... Digger
