Is that a retractable landing light under the left wingtip of those Corsairs? I don't think I have even seen that on a civilian bird. Anyone have a closer shot?

Whaddya mean? All the coconut milk you can drink and all the dates you can eat! They didn't have it any better on Gilligan's Island. Although they did have Maryanne to look at... :evil:

I meant grumbling from A&Ps that are working NOW, not those who were working "in the field" during wars!!!!

Have you ever worked midnights on the weekend inside the backend of a hot RB211 borescoping it in the cold and pouring rain with lightning and thunder going on all around you and all your friends are out partying?

I'll take the beach working conditions if it's on a Corsair, the pay is the same, I can go home after my shift and they are not shooting at me.

Our 80K square foot hangars are air-conditioned and heated.

We retrieved a Citation jet a couple of weeks ago in Kansas. Sent a crew up with a pair of engines and extra parts (It had not flown in a while) and they installed the engines in one day and got it running on avgas (no jet fuel at that airport) and then our pilot flew it home to South Texas on a ferry permit.

The funny part of this story is that they worked outside in the sun, in the middle of nowhere, and they were the happiest bunch you'd ever see. We pick up aircraft all over the country in various states of dis-repair or damage, and the crews fight over who gets to go.

Go figure!

OKAY, here's my dumb question. Was tape over the gun ports a standard procedure to keep sand & "schmutz" from clogging the barrels and causing jams during combat? (Weissenberger image)
