Apparently the test bed for the new multi-angular curved propeller design. Not that successful...

Going back in my memory...and I'm not sure all the facts are 100%...but...Jimmy McMillan (maybe with Howard Pardue) purchased a Sea Fury in the early 80s that had been damaged (or was damaged soon after purchase) in a gear collapse(?). I think it was WG652 and that prop sure looks like it hit something.

Maybe one of the Ezell guys can confirm or correct the details.

Jim

A public service announcement for confused 'merican WIXers...

Hawker Sea Furys have five blades and a Bristol engine.

Sorta Furys have four blades and Yankee engine.

It is easy to get confused here in the U.S., as you get lulled into confusion by repeated exposure to Sorta Furys. Many even call them Sea Furys. The only real Sea Furys are those as created by Hawkers. Do not be mislead by the Sorta Fury pretenders. :)

Sea Furies with R-3350 or R-4360s replacing the Centaurus engine & 4 blade Skyraider props. I think the R-3350 is most common & I don't think any use an R-2800.

G'day all, happy easter!!!I have seen this sort of damage before on a Fury here in Oz.The pilot conducted a ground run prior to take off with the nose facing not quite into wind, needless to say the aircraft pivoted on the mains and suffered a prop strike, the pilot noticed the tail lifting and had pulled back on the power but could not prevent the nose over.this does not look like landing damage as there are no scrape marks on the gear doors and no dents on the nosebowl, both of which I have seen on a wheels up landing, great pics just the same!!!!Cheers,Pete

Would have to agree as there certainly was no forward momentum. Boy, hate to be that Dude! "Uh, yeah, I meant to do that...."

Reminds me of the time I pasted a guys race car in the wall during a test session. I asked him how it felt to be a "big time race car owner"? His reply was, "not as bad as it must feel to be a big time race car driver...."

Ha ha the joys of paperwork. Not so Furias was burnt and completely destroyed. I saw the picture in Pacific Flyer the month after. darn shame.

Groundloop. Dad's first repair job in TX before we moved out here.

Note the angle of the spade door. The Gear box structure holds a hinge for this door which was hit by the gear partially folding outboard.

Ashley

PS- not to hijack the thread but no, the P-38 has not flown.

Good evening,

Obviously, the Sea Fury hit the ground with a lot of power input as the propeller blades always bent foward in this case.
