If it was too offensive to the Japanese, then they wouldn't be the majority of the people that visit the memorial.

"Screw 'em"--Pappy Boyington. I am getting a little tired of everything being changed to suit the minority. Now I don't mean this at any one group, just an observation I have begun to make. I think when I am an old man that I am going to be like Archie bunker, but not becasue I want to, but because I am going to be forced to. It seems anymore, you are allowed to have your own opinions, as long as they are the same as everyone elses. O.K. I feel better now.

Yeah, I was suprised by the number of Japanese on Oahu. I wasn't expecting that. It's a popular destination for them. I didn't notice nearly as many at the Memorial when I was there, but you couldn't step 2 feet down Waikiki without running into some Japanese folks. By contrast, I didn't see hardly any on Maui.

I did hear on the radio today that there is a group who wants to end all ceremonies of Pearl Harbor once all the survivors have passed away. Their reasoning--it is too offensive to the Japanese!

Okay - one year after they stop holding memorials for the two a-bombs in japan, we can *discuss* not holding the memorial for Pearl. On the other hand... do these same people think we should stop holding memorials for 9/11? and if not, why not?

great idea!! .....a little weird, ironic & sentimental that the arizona still bleeds oil to this day, it parallels the blood shed on that day, it doesn't stop.

Scott, that's a great idea, go for it.

We absolutely should NOT stop these rememberances...we've already repeated the bloody mistake once in our history. I don't want to see what the next one will look like.

I remember hearing from some of the "old-timers" that they used to have a B-29 fly over at airshows and a 55-gallon drum of flash powder would be touched off to simulate the atom attacks. I also heard that the Japanese were pretty hacked about it, so it was stopped. Is this true?
