The B-17 at the Museum of Aviation in Georgia

Anyone have an update on how the restoration of this B-17 is coming along?

It has come quite a ways from the last time I saw it. A recent post on Facebook shows as largely externally complete. It looks like they're doing small detail work at the moment and probably filling out the interior.

I saw it in person back in March. It's looking very, very good! I am amazed at the amount (and quality) of work they've accomplished. Still a lot to do, of course, but they are making great progress.

Not having my copy of The Final Cut at hand...

Isn't that the one the NASM had for decades and never touched...or even displayed?

I believe the one you are thinking of is at the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force

The one at the Museum of Aviation came from the Grissom Air Museum in Indiana.

I happened to be at the museum the day it arrived. There was surprisingly little corrosion.

Thanks for the correction.

I saw her at Grissom in 2011, she looked to me most other AFB outside statics.

Most of the corrosion was in the radio room and nose because the plane was displayed for many years with the tail raised. It wasn’t horrible but the main gusset in bombbay had corroded off completely. I worked on the plane for a while.
