It was a good idea, it just didn't work.

When in Miami for helping with the Hurricane Andrew recovery, my Blackhawk (I was assigned a AFRES HH-60 for media work) landed a Tamiami (sp?) to refuel.
It was next to the remains of Week's hangar.


I walked over, Kermit was busy trying to remove a collapsed roof joist which had narrowly missed a Corsair and Duck.
I'm front of me there was a ball of material which was once an airplane.
I could not recognize it.

I asked a staff member what it was and was told a P-12 (Boeing 100).

So, if that is it, they have done a wonderful job rebuilding it.

That's a different one, the ex Tallman one shown in Stoney's post. It's also being rebuilt in Nevada at the same place as the ex Hughes one, and is not far behind.
It's going back into it's factory civilian color scheme.

Wow, thank you very much! Amazing to learn that it still survives. I thought for sure this would either be a dead end or it would turn out to be someone's homebuilt or highly modified Stearman.

The original photo looks to me like the fuselage had been metallized.

Good to hear N247K is being resurrected - somewhere over the weekend I think I read that the build has incorporated some parts from the original and it does amaze me that such wrecks from 60 years ago do sometimes survive, at least in part. One assumes that back then they would have ended up in a scrap metal yard after any investigation.

I've Kermit's video from his visit to see the work in progress a couple of years ago - absolutely fabulous.
