Getting hit with some jettisoned retardant is usually better than being covered with flaming wreckage. The correct answer to the question “where is the emergency jettison area?” would be “under the airplane”. That said, we would carry the retardant to an open area or designated jettison area if conditions permitted.

Well, that is strange. My date was September 1971 on my notation so I did not get the specific date when I cut that out in 1971 but, yes, mine must have been the first edition. Obviously identical except the aircraft type. We'll wait for someone who was there to chime in, but I guess the latest version would be the most correct. Strange.
