First, the link:

Ryan PT22 on Ebay

I've talked with the representative of the owner- sounds like a great candidate for restoration- and the price will probably be adjusted to a more realistic one.

Unfortunately, it looks like it spent more time OUT of the barn thn IN. One
of the cockpit shots looks like it's full of walnuts and leaves...sigh..

per FAA - N48996 c/n 2181

Is the military serial 41-20972? (counting back from the next higher c/n - 2248/41-21039 - on the Baugher site.)

I have a Kinner R-55-100A military aircraft engine for the PT-22 complete, disassembled and pickled in cosmoline if anyone needs one for a PT-22 and it would also work nicely on a Fleet, and a few other types of 1930's biplanes. Email me off line , I will give you a nice deal.

Chris, you've got it right per the Ryan Guidebook by Dorr Carpenter and Mitch Mayborn, Flying Enterprise Publications, 1975.

Based on that I think they would have to pay you to take it to make it worthwhile. No doubt, there's another knucklehead like me out there that will tackle the job and get way upside down on it! No doubt it is worth saving though.

They just took the first digit off the price... $29,995 out the door, leaves and acorns included. Now there's a WIX project!

What a sham! Why can't they just sell it with no reserve? Why does it have a reserve at all if they are trying to settle an estate? What's wrong with selling to a local warbirder or EAA'er in town? I hate estate airplanes, never had any luck, tried to buy an AT-6A in New Hampshire, Bamboo bomber in Kentucky, SuperCubs, Cessnas, etc., etc. The contact person always gives you the run around as this one appears to be doing. IMO, the aircraft is worth between 5 to 20,000 tops. Courtesy Aircraft had a project for sale for $25,000 recently and it hadn't been sitting outside for 50 years!!
